HVAC Testing & Balancing Engineer
HVAC Testing & Balancing (TAB) Engineer – responsible for carrying out air and water balancing, system testing, and commissioning services on HVAC installations in line with project specifications and industry standards (CIBSE, NEBB, BSRIA). This is a field‑based role with travel to client sites across Ireland.

Perform testing, adjusting, and balancing (TAB) of HVAC systems, including air and hydronic systems.
Verify and document airflow and water flow against design specifications.
Conduct system performance assessments (airflow, static pressure, pre‑commissioning, commissionability studies, water flow measurements).
Identify and troubleshoot system performance issues, recommending corrective action.
Interpret mechanical drawings and specifications to verify design and installation compliance.
Collaborate with contractors, engineers, and commissioning teams to resolve technical issues.
Conduct site inspections and audits pre‑ and post‑installation.
Prepare accurate TAB records and final balancing reports in line with project requirements and standards (CIBSE Code A, BSRIA, NEBB).
Use TAB equipment such as manometers, anemometers, flow hoods, and pressure gauges.
Maintain calibration of instruments and ensure tools are in proper working condition.
Ensure all work is carried out safely and in compliance with site H&S policies, HSE regulations, and relevant standards.
Support commissioning activities and functional performance testing.

Requirements
Essential

Minimum 23 years’ experience in HVAC testing, commissioning, or balancing (TAB).
Strong understanding of HVAC systems and schematics (AHUs, FCUs, VAVs, pumps, chillers, boilers).
Proficiency in using TAB tools and instruments.
Engineering qualification or certification by CIBSE preferred (or ability to obtain).
Proficient in reading HVAC drawings, schematics, and specifications.
Full clean driving licence (role requires travel to multiple sites).
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent attention to detail and problem‑solving ability.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.

Desirable

TAB certification from a recognised body (NEBB, AABC, BSRIA, or equivalent).
Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS/BAS) and control strategies.
Experience in mission‑critical environments such as cleanrooms, data centres, labs, or healthcare.
Proficiency with balancing instruments (Shortridge, TSI).
Experience with air tightness testing or cleanroom certification.
IOSH or Safe Pass certification.
Experience supervising or mentoring junior engineers or technicians.

Working Conditions

Field‑based role with regular travel to client sites nationwide.
May involve occasional out‑of‑hours or weekend work depending on project requirements.

Complaint Investigation Engineer – Laboratory Testing (Devices)
Lead complex complaint investigations and related quality activities with minimal supervision. Responsible for advanced problem solving, data and trend analysis, protocol and report authorship, and driving root cause analysis to ensure regulatory compliance.

Perform complaint investigations and manage sample handling, reporting, and documentation.
Perform hands‑on laboratory testing and failure investigations of complaint devices, including mechanical, fluidic, electronic, and software‑related investigations.
Conduct ad hoc investigations into product and equipment failures.
Author and review testing protocols and final reports.
Drive root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions.
Identify and respond to potential product issues proactively.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including Sustaining Engineering and Product Development.
Support regulatory inspections and audits.
Analyse complaint data to identify trends and triggers.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to process improvements.

About you

BS/MS in engineering, science, or related field.
2–4 years in a regulated environment.
Strong understanding of quality systems and document control.
Advanced problem‑solving and analytical skills.
Excellent communication, presentation, and technical writing skills.
Experience in protocol/report writing and statistical analysis (Minitab, DOE).
Proven ability to lead projects and work independently.
Knowledge of ISO, FDA, OSHA, ASTM standards.
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
Supporting equipment validation activities and assisting with test method transfers to enable the new laboratory launch.
Supporting lot release activities.

Software Engineer Intern – Developer Enablement (Autodesk)
Internship focused on building and scaling applications that utilize environmental data, delivered through a unified standardized interface. The role involves developing APIs, learning TypeScript, AWS, and DevOps tools.

Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to understand the full software development lifecycle.
Contribute to real commercial development projects, guided by experienced Autodesk developers.
Gain hands‑on experience with TypeScript, AWS, automated testing frameworks, and DevOps.
Apply Agile and Scrum practices, building project management skills.
Use source control and continuous integration platforms such as GitHub and Jenkins.
Develop robust APIs to enable sustainability analysis for Autodesk customers.
Share progress and achievements in team meetings, gaining feedback and recognition.

Minimum Qualifications

Currently pursuing a degree in a STEM field (Computer Science, Engineering, etc.).
Expected graduation date available upon application.
Experience with API development (REST, GraphQL) through coursework or prior internships.
Programming experience with TypeScript preferred.
Enthusiasm for learning new technologies and proactive problem‑solving.

The Ideal Candidate

Familiarity with automated testing principles to write reliable, maintainable code.
Familiarity with AWS or other cloud platforms.
Additional experience with other programming languages or frameworks is a plus.
Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
Previous internship experience in a related field is advantageous.
