Job Title: Communications and Marketing Officer

Reporting To: Executive Dean and Operations and Education Manager of Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery

Location: Hybrid - Dublin City Centre / Remote working

School (or department): Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery

Contract type/duration: 2 Year Full-Time Contract

Purpose of this role:

To help us implement our vision and execute the Faculty’s strategic plan, we are looking for a highly motivated, creative individual to join the Faculty as a Communications and Marketing Officer. The successful candidate will occupy a key role within the Faculty, driving the delivery and implementation of the communications and marketing functions for the department. This is a rewarding, exciting and challenging position within a team that is driven to continuously innovate and improve in order to achieve the Faculty’s strategic ambitions.

The Communications and Marketing Officer will play a pivotal role in driving the Faculty’s communications proposition. They will be responsible for devising and delivering digital approaches which align with the Faculty and the university’s own communications strategy. They will keep abreast of developments in digital communications and ensure that the Faculty’s communication model integrates emerging trends in digital engagement.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and managing the Faculty’s internal and external relations and marketing the Faculty’s suite of CPD and research programmes. The successful candidate will also be responsible for driving brand awareness, managing social media accounts, creating newsletters and supporting the design of marketing collateral. The role will support relationship building with the Faculty’s broad base of stakeholders.

Specifically, the duties of the post are:

Strategic communications

* Leading the development of the Faculty's communications proposition, with a focus on key national stakeholders and international partners and peers;
* Implementing external strategic communications campaigns to promote the Faculty’s education, training, research and outreach activities;
* Ensuring the Faculty’s social media activity is an integral part of the Faculty’s communication operating model.

Digital engagement

* Leading on the development and delivery of the Faculty’s social media proposition, to enhance and protect the Faculty’s national and international reputation;
* Curating compelling organic social media content;
* Developing and managing dynamic paid social campaigns and strategies;
* Measuring the effectiveness of specific communications and campaigns to inform future direction;
* Further enhancing the Faculty’s use of video in social media;
* Continuously exploring new channels to engage with audiences as technologies emerge that could add value to the Faculty’s reputation;
* Managing the cost effectiveness of digital / subscriptions.

Media relations

* Writing compelling press releases and securing media coverage for publications, events and initiatives;
* Developing and maintaining strong relationships with relevant media nationally and internationally and pitching news items / features to media, highlighting Faculty activities;
* Dealing with media queries in an accurate and timely manner.

Internal communications

* Submit content to internal newsletters and staff internal communications platform.

Stakeholder communications

* Developing and issuing the Faculty’s newsletters;
* Writing content and curating visuals for the Faculty website;
* Supporting new and emerging communications activities that will drive the strategic objectives of the Faculty;
* Representing the best interests of the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery and RCSI at all times.

Marketing of Postgraduate Programmes, Fellowship Programmes, and CPD Courses

* Executing a suite of Integrated Marketing Campaigns to target potential candidates;
* Overseeing the creation and updating of a suite of marketing materials to underpin the above promotional activities;
* Communicating with colleagues and other stakeholders to successfully promote the programmes and courses;
* Management of budgets for associated campaigns.

Operational support

* Developing and managing relationships with suppliers and liaising with them to ensure projects are carried out efficiently and within budget;
* Day-to-day administrative and office support;
* Preparing and designing presentations, drafting marketing and communications proposals and other documents, as per Faculty requirements;
* Performing such other duties as may be required.

Collaboration

* Working collaboratively with members of the Faculty and RCSI communications teams and key stakeholders to develop communications plans and materials;
* Communicating with internal and external stakeholders and others in a professional, positive and appropriate manner.

Qualifications:

* Primary degree (or equivalent) in relevant discipline;
* Master’s degree or professional qualification in communications or marketing (highly desirable but not essential).

Knowledge & Experience – (Essential):

* Practical Communications and Marketing experience
* Experience in a similar role, ideally in a professional, healthcare or educational environment (or similar);
* Proven track record in taking ownership of discrete programmes of activity;
* Experience in PR /communications;
* Experience of driving social media strategies aimed at building reputation;
* Experience of building organic and promoted social media campaigns;
* An understanding of how to measure success of campaigns and leverage lessons learned to inform future campaigns;
* Proven track record of developing, refining and adhering to brand guidelines;
* Experience of collating raw information and refining it into relevant, engaging content and or marketing collateral;
* Experience creating engaging, relevant press releases;
* Experience of writing, editing, producing and issuing newsletters using email marketing platforms/ CRMs;
* Experience writing and editing news and feature content for the web;
* Experiencing creating and editing written and visual content for social media.

Knowledge & Experience (Desirable):

* Experience of working in 3rd level education or postgraduate healthcare training sector or similar;
* Third level qualification in communications /public relations/ digital communications or relevant discipline;
* Success in driving external communication campaigns with print, broadcast and online media;
* Good knowledge of the Irish media landscape and success in achieving national media coverage;
* Experience of building a media distribution list;
* Working knowledge of photo and video editing tools would be an advantage.

* Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills;
* Excellent relationship management skills;
* Strong attention to detail, and demonstrated ability to multi-task;
* Can operate flexibly within a busy, complex environment; can shift focus when required as well as the ability to prioritise conflicting demands to meet deadlines;
* Strong organisational skills and an ability to help organise others;
* Advanced user of the Microsoft suite and other tools relevant to the role;
* Strong commitment to learning and own continuous personal development;
* Flexibility to work irregular hours, when necessary;
* Self-starter and results focussed;
* Excellent collaborator and strong team player.
