The Role
Carroll Estimating are seeking an experienced CSA Estimator to join our growing estimating team at our head office based in Carlow Town, Carlow. The estimating team leads the full tendering and pricing process for construction projects, working closely with Main Contractors and Subcontractors across Ireland, the UK, and Europe.
The successful candidate will work closely with junior, intermediate, and senior estimators, taking responsibility for
tendering and pricing projects across all civil, structural, and architectural aspects of the construction industry
, while collaborating with contracting organisations to analyse tender documentation, develop robust Bills of Quantities, lead contractor and subcontractor engagement, and support pre- and post-tender activities.
Job Description (Main Duties and Responsibilities)
The main duties and responsibilities of the experienced Estimator (CSA) are outlined as follows:
Tendering & Cost Estimating
* Analyse tender documentation, drawings, specifications to prepare accurate and complete costings.
* Ability to develop rates from first principles using estimating software, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and commercial integrity within tender submissions.
* Prepare detailed and fully itemised estimates covering labour, plant, materials, overheads, margins, and subcontract packages.
* Engage with the contractor supply chain by issuing structured trade and subcontract packages to secure accurate and competitive pricing.
* Carry out accurate quantity take-offs and prepare detailed Bills of Quantities.
* Prepare, compile, and deliver high-quality tender submissions in line with strict deadlines.
* Prepare final tender submission packages, including drafting, compilation, and presentation for senior management approval.
* Assess project risks, opportunities, and key assumptions to support informed and commercially sound pricing decisions.
* Contribute to value engineering initiatives and the development of alternative, cost-effective construction solutions.
* Strong knowledge of construction, architectural, and engineering rates within the industry.
Pre-construction & Contractor Collaboration
* Build and maintain strong working relationships with Main Contractors, developers, and subcontracting companies, engaging directly with their estimating and commercial teams during pre-construction.
* Participate in pre- and post-tender meetings with contracting clients, consultants, and design teams, providing commercial and estimating input as required.
* Provide input into construction methodology development and the preparation of commercially robust preliminaries pricing.
Documentation, Quality & Handover
* Provide robust pricing documentation and analysis to support contractor adjudication and senior management decision-making.
* Support document control processes and maintain accurate estimating records and pricing log databases.
* Actively support the ongoing development and improvement of estimating tools, templates, and processes.
Qualifications
* Minimum of 5+ years' experience working in a similar estimating or cost management role.
* Relevant qualification in Estimating, Quantity Surveying, or a related cost management discipline.
* Strong numerical and analytical skills, with a high level of commercial accuracy.
* Sound understanding of civil, structural, and architectural estimating across construction projects.
* Working knowledge of Rules of Measurement for the preparation of Bills of Quantities.
* Proficient in the use of estimating and measurement software such as Buildsoft Cubit, CostX, Bluebeam, Kreo, or similar platforms.
* Excellent IT skills, including strong capability in Microsoft Office applications and the use of formulas
* Experience with tender management platforms such as Supplyo or EstimateOne is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided.
* Working knowledge of Rules of Measurement, including ARM, CESMM, Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) measurement standards, NRM, or similar
* Good understanding of construction contracts, including Public Works Contracts, RIAI Contracts, and NEC forms of contract
* Experience working across a wide range of construction projects, including but not limited to healthcare, residential, pharmaceutical, industrial, refurbishment and renovation works, civil engineering projects, rail networks, roads, drainage, and ducting infrastructure
