St. Joseph's Foundation is a voluntary organisation providing comprehensive services for adults with intellectual disabilities and children with complex needs. Founded in 1968 the Foundation has grown through continuously responding to the needs of people with disabilities and their families.
The Foundation provides services to children and adults. Adults services include; day services, residential, respite care, MDT and home support in the North Cork and South West Limerick region. We have day and residential services in various locations in the North Cork and South Limerick area; such as Charleville, Dromina, Newtownshandrum, Buttevant, Newmarket, Mitchelstown and Mallow, in Limerick; Ballylanders,Ballyagran, Bruree, Bruff Croom Dromcollogher, Granagh Kilmallock, and Liskennett.
SPEECH & LANGUAGE THERAPIST - ADULT SERVICES
Permanent Full-Time Contract (35hr/wk)
Applications are invited for a Permanent Staff Grade Speech and Language Therapist, within St. Joseph's Foundation (SJF) Adult services multidisciplinary team, based in Charleville, Co Cork.
SJF Adult Services MDT delivers a person-centered and human rights-based model of care in supporting adults with an intellectual disability who are accessing SJF day and residential services, located across the North Cork and South West Limerick region.
The Speech and Language therapist is a key appointment to the team in providing high quality clinical assessment and intervention, primarily in the areas of communication and FEDS, supported by engagement with clinical supervision, CPD and self-directed learning. In conjunction with other team members, the SLT will contribute to providing a quality service with a healthy balance of supports in enabling service users to live a meaningful life of their choosing.
Candidates registered as Speech and Language Therapist with CORU or Upcoming 2025 Graduates are invited to apply*
Completion of undergraduate or postgraduate FEDS competencies is essential
Experience (post-graduate or clinical placement) of working with adults with an intellectual disability and/or Autism is desirable

JOB SUMMARY
The 'Speech and Language Therapist' post is a key appointment in the development of a comprehensive/effective service for adults with an intellectual disability.In conjunction with other team members, the SLT will contribute to developing the SLT and MDT service to meet the needs of the people we support, so that they can enjoy a meaningful life with a healthy balance of supports. The Speech and Language Therapist will deliver high quality clinical assessment and intervention, supported by engagement with clinical supervision, CPD and self-directed learning. He/she will contribute to providing a quality service, enabling service users to realise their potential by delivering a person-centred approach as part of a multidisciplinary team.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
PROFESSIONAL
Attend work the days and hours at the centre(s) to which they are assigned, reporting to SLT Manager as requested
Demonstrate professional conduct and behaviours by adhering to legal, ethical and professional practice standards in all aspects of practice as stipulated by CORU and SJF code of conduct policy, ensuring also that professional standards are maintained in relation to confidentiality, ethics and legislation
Be fully aware of and compliant with current safeguarding legislation and SJF safeguarding policies and procedures.
Adhere to existing and future policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines for the development and maintenance of standards for quality improvement and outcome measurement, including knowledge of HIQA and New Directions
Foster and maintain professional working relationships with service users, families, SJF staff, and other personnel from external agencies such as GP's, SLT's in acute care, or adult education teachers, promoting positive engagement collaborative team working, respect for others, and a culture that values diversity
CLINICAL
Be responsible for managing and prioritising own caseload, with support from the Senior SLT/SLT Manager as required
Contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of a tiered model of supports; sharing universal information, delivering targeted trainings and workshops, and providing direct intervention on an individual, group and consultative basis, both SLT specific and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation and monitoring of clinical recommendations and programmes for service users, both SLT specific and MDT, according to service and professional standards in delivering evidence-informed care
Organise visits to home, day service, work etc. as appropriate, to determine the service user's needs and to plan intervention, in line with the policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines of the service
Communicate verbally and /or in writing outcomes of assessments, intervention programmes and recommendations to service users, carers and staff, with knowledge of and adherence to the Assisted Decision Making Act (2015), consent policy and UNCRPD, utilising accessible information formats which best support the service user in understanding recommendations, and a total communication approach in supporting service user engagement in decisions regarding the future or ongoing management of presenting needs
Maintain each service users electronic file (EPICcare) in accordance with the record keeping policy, ensuring the quality of documentation of all assessments, support plans, case notes, and reports are in accordance with local guidelines and CORU and IASLT professional policies procedures guidelines and standards on record keeping
Attend and participate in, SLT and MDT team meetings, Person-Centred Plan (PCP) review meetings, restrictive practice team meetings, case conferences, etc. communicating and working in an integrated model including the service users and their families/carers, and staff
Be responsible for the maintenance of relevant standards for own practice, seeking advice and assistance in a timely manner with any assigned duties or issues that are beyond the scope of professional competence, in line with principles of clinical governance
Operate within the scope of Speech and Language Therapy practice as set out by CORU and the Irish Association of Speech and Language Therapists (IASLT) including policy documents and competencies, and in accordance with the relevant policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines of St. Joseph's Foundation.
As the SLT is expected to work in the areas of Feeding, Eating, Drinking and/or Swallowing (FEDS), they must have the relevant competencies as recommended by the I.A.S.L.T. in Standards of Practice for Speech and Language Therapists on the Management of Feeding, Eating, Drinking and Swallowing Disorders (Dysphagia) 2012.
Maintain and regularly update the SLT caseload database and provide statistical data and other information in a timely fashion as requested by the SLT Manager or CEO.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Identify, in consultation with line management and clinical supervision, own training needs and undertake training where appropriate and required as part of ongoing continued professional development (CPD)
Conduct research & development in the field as agreed with SLT Manager.
Participate in the development and delivery of relevant training and teaching programmes for service users, families, staff and others as required and agreed through the line management system.
Actively engage in clinical and professional supervision as agreed with the SLT Manager and in conjunction with IASLT and CORU supervision guidelines.
HEALTH & SAFETY
1. Promote a safe working environment in accordance with Health and Safety legislation and, in particular, to comply with employees' obligations as set out in the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 as well as any related policies and procedures within St. Joseph's Foundation.
2. Be aware of and implement agreed policies, procedures and safe professional practice by adhering to relevant legislation, regulations and standards
3. Actively participate in risk management issues, identify risk issues to their line manager, and participate in the management of risk including the implementation of controls.
4. Report any adverse incidents in accordance with organisational guidelines
5. Be aware of and become familiar with fire drill procedures i.e. fire detection, evacuation and firefighting.
GENERAL

On the termination of employment but before departing from the service, staff members are required to return to the Foundation,via their line manager ,all books, reports, memoranda, correspondence, papers, records, reports, files including data held on electronic files and any other documentation, and all other property, including keys, belonging to the Foundation or relating to its business or affairs which are in the possession of a staff member or under his/her control when the employment is terminated.
