The Role:

The Financial Control and Planning Function is responsible for the high-quality management of statutory and regulatory financial information and ensuring that the highest level of assurance and service on the organisation’s finances is provided to senior and operational management, shareholders, financial agencies, regulatory authorities, and the public. The function oversees the management of UÉ’s liquidity, investments, funding, cash management, reporting activities and financial risks and is responsible for developing and maintaining best in class treasury processes, procedures, and control environment. Additionally, the teams drive the corporate planning, budgeting and forecasting, and all related activities for Uisce Éireann and are accountable for the development, refinement and analysis of short and long-term forecasting models across the organization as well as tax compliance, strategy and planning.

The Finance area within Uisce Eireann ensures effective financial management of the organisation and provides the expertise, services, and information to support the business in achieving its required business outcomes, including supporting the financial and information requirements of Uisce Eireann. The Corporate Finance Team develop the Finance and Management Accounting areas of Uisce Eireann and deliver high-quality management, statutory and regulatory financial information and ensure that the highest level of assurance and service on the organisation’s finances is provided to senior and operational management, to shareholders, financial agencies, regulatory authorities and the public. They are also responsible for developing Uisce Eireann’s financial and management control function to meet current and future business requirements.

Reporting into the Tax Manager, the Tax Delivery Lead is responsible for the planning and management of tax return submission across the Tax team. The Tax Delivery Lead will also have responsibility for supporting tax compliance, strategy planning and for promoting increased awareness of taxation risks & opportunities and driving process improvements.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

* Manage the planning and the delivery of tax processes and controls for the submission of tax returns within Revenue deadlines, across the Tax team.
* Ensure the delivery of tax returns and filing, as assigned in the tax delivery plan, in an efficient and effective manner in accordance with tax legislation/guidance and internal governance processes.
* Lead the planning and management of cross training in tax processes and controls, across the Tax team, to enable flexibility and scheduling of responsibilities accordingly.
* Assist the Tax Manager in engagement with external tax authorities (incl. Revenue’s CCF) and consultants, as required.
* Support the Tax team to ensure the delivery of current, deferred and cash tax projections for reporting, forecasts, budgets and business plans within internal financial reporting timelines, as required.
* Ensure tax reviews of internal company wide processes are completed effectively and engage with key stakeholders across the organisation to address issues and lead the delivery for appropriate actions, as required.
* Manage business stakeholders, effectively lead meetings, develop strong working relationships with colleagues and work flexibly within the tax team.
* Provide appropriate tax support / advisory / training to the business, including ensuring tax compliance is not compromised by contractual changes, researching and resolving technical queries from the business, and advising on relevant updates to tax legislation, as required.
* Support statutory reporting and deliver audit requests and responses relevant to tax.
* Drive the development and implementation of best practice robust processes, with appropriate financial controls, to ensure tax compliance with applicable laws.
* Drive a culture of continuous improvement across the Tax team, working with key stakeholders to proactively implement continuous improvement initiatives.
* Identify taxation risks & opportunities and work flexibly with the Tax Manager and Tax team members to ensure the delivery for appropriate actions to minimise risks and maximise opportunities.
* Promote an appropriate awareness of taxation risks & opportunities across Uisce Éireann, and lead the delivery for appropriate actions, as required.
* Lead the delivery of system changes required to drive tax compliance, as required and act as the point of contact with IT to ensure tax compliance is considered in system developments.
* Perform other duties as required from time to time.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

* Relevant third level degree and a minimum of 5 – 7 years’ experience in the water, utilities or similar industries is desirable
* Professional qualification in Tax with associated current membership.
* Thorough knowledge of Irish tax legislation and experience of dealing with the Irish tax authorities.
* Strong exposure to all areas of taxation including, RCT, VAT, WHT, PSWT, PAYE, DCPL, Corporation & Deferred Tax.
* Recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACMA, ACCA), is preferable.
* Prior experience in tax strategy implementation, planning support and projects.
* Ability to prioritise tasks, manage and deliver high-quality work within timelines, and manage resources while remaining focused on and aligned to team goals and objectives.
* Adaptable and flexible to change focus and direction in line with business strategy and requirements.
* Experience in managing end-to-end processes to ensure delivery meets customer expectations
* Strong analytical skills and ability to identify and analyse problems and potential improvements, and propose and implement solutions
* Experience in contributing to a safe working environment by checking regularly that safety and wellbeing practices are being followed
* Highly motivated individual, working to the highest professional and ethical standards with proven ability to deliver results
* Ability to develop and maintain effective strategic partnerships with key stakeholders internally and externally and offer guidance and support to make the right decisions
* Experience coaching the development of technical skills and abilities in others.
