Salary Scale
€37,060 to €54,111 pro rata per annum.
Annual Leave Entitlement
33 pro rata per annum.
Overview Of The Post
The purpose of the role is to work as a member of the team providing respite and home support services in all Enable Ireland locations across Carlow and Kilkenny. The role involves meeting the identified needs of children through a person‑centred approach in active partnership with each child and family. The post will involve weekday and weekend work, sleepovers and night duty.
Duties

Create an environment which promotes each child’s participation, choice and decision‑making and enables each child to reach their highest level of independence.
Display a skilled approach to clinical and therapeutic interventions to provide care across various states of health and wellbeing and promote wellness.
Work within scope of practice and build professional development throughout employment.
Be a lead clinician in assigned clinical areas and carry a caseload appropriate to the post.
Co‑ordinate, assess, plan, implement and review care for children according to service standards, including TUSLA and HIQA regulations.
Ensure implementation of agreed programmes of care for each child in ways that promote dignity and respect.
Identify and understand each child’s health and medical needs and ensure they are met appropriately.
Work with individual children in a range of settings and take the lead in ensuring their safety.
Provide leadership, support and mentorship to staff in the provision of clinical and care support services across multiple locations.
Take responsibility for line management and clinical supervision of staff and students as required.
Act as a facilitator to foster links with the child’s future educators.
Identify training needs and deliver training to non‑nursing staff as required.
Maintain high standards for care and hygiene of treatment rooms, bathrooms and toileting facilities.
Plan and manage bus routes, schedules and act as bus escort during transportation of children to and from home as required.
Display appropriate sensitivity while working closely with families and service users.
Work in accordance with Enable Ireland’s Code of Practice, Guidelines for Working with Service Users and other national policies and procedures.
In consultation with the inter/multidisciplinary team, design, implement and evaluate programme of activity for each child.
Liaise and organise paediatric clinics as appropriate.
Liaise with health care professionals.
Ensure equipment, toys and furniture are maintained in good order; have overall responsibility for children’s clothing and equipment and ensure they return home in good order.

Plan and organises activities and necessary resources efficiently and effectively.
Understand the importance of time management for personal caseloads and for activities.
Demonstrate the ability to arrange and schedule activities.
Deal with unexpected scenarios with persistence and flexibility to achieve goals.
Be accountable for regular documentation of children’s progress in files.

Ensure records and technical data are up to date.
Adhere to health and safety standards and operational guidelines, ensuring equipment is checked and working correctly.
Maintain a disciplined and professional performance level under sustained or situational pressure.

Hold professional values and beliefs and behave in line with standards set by Enable Ireland, NMBI and other relevant professional bodies.
Make decisions in a well‑judged and timely manner using all relevant information.

Collaborate with children, families and other stakeholders to identify and achieve goals.

Carry out vaccination of staff and service users as required.

Essential Criteria

Recognised validated University Degree or equivalent qualification in Intellectual Disability Nursing or Children’s Nursing.
Registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
Current eligibility to work in the state.
Full manual driving licence for use within the state/jurisdiction and access to own transport.
Experience of working with children with disability.
Annual registration maintained with NMBI.

Desirable Criteria

Commitment to working in partnership with parents/carers and children in a family‑centred manner.
Good knowledge of child protection and child development.
Understanding of the concept of residential respite and day services.
Knowledge of HIQA standards.
Experience working with teenagers with challenging behaviours.
Experience in inter‑ and transdisciplinary working.
Disciplined and professional performance under sustained or situational pressure.
Ability to arrange and schedule activities.
Ability to work effectively as a team member without daily supervision and be self‑motivating.
Willingness to embrace service development and change.
