UCC ROWING CLUB IS LOOKING FOR A HEAD COACH Urgently required, See job description below.

Job Summary

The UCC Rowing Club Head Coach is responsible for formulating and implementing the

technical sports policy to achieve optimal results at the international level and the highest

national level. The Head Coach will work in collaboration with other coaches and specialist

trainers involved in the club's training and competition program in accordance with the agreed

allocation of tasks.

The UCC Rowing Club Head Coach is a part-time position, with a salary commensurate with

experience. The Head Coach will work with the UCC Sports Directors to evaluate and adjust the

technical sports policy in line with the long-term philosophy and policy of UCC Rowing Club.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Training club athletes

Analyse individual and team performance;

Draft a specific training plan (mental, technical, tactical, physical and group

development), evaluate it, and make adjustments where necessary;

Draw up daily training programs and coordinate them with all technical elements of the

athlete's program;

Conduct data-collection training with athletes on a regular interval. This may include seat

racing, erg testing, lactate testing etc. to produce relevant criteria for crew selection.

2. Coaches during elite events

Analyse opponents and draw up a competition plan;

With the consultation of Assistant coaches, produce the crew

announcements ahead of regattas;

Determine who rows in the boats and decide on race tactics;

Conduct pre- and post-event analyses with crew-specific feedback.

3. Supervise the technical development of elite athletes

Draw up a multi-year plan for the development of the athletes;

Draw up an annual plan and an annual program;

Evaluate and adjust planning in collaboration with the club, national (if required)

coach/coaches, the elite athletes, and other support staff;

Supervise, inform, advise and support athletes with every aspect (technical, tactical,

physical, mental) of their career development;

Ensure that there are periodical consultations with the athlete about the athlete's

progress (at least every 6 weeks);

Record the progress made by each individual athlete.

4. Direct and manage coaching team

Create a strong coaching ethic and philosophy whereby coaches abide by similar

coaching standards;

Integrate the input of experts in periodisation;

Ensure athletes abide by agreements in respect of rules of conduct and obligations

imposed by the UCC Sport.

5. Gather, develop and share knowledge on technical aspects of the sport

Seek out relevant scientific and other developments that can contribute to the

performance of elite athletes and create opportunities for implementing them;

Participate in and develop knowledge networks;

Work specifically and actively on their own development as a coach on the basis of a

personal development plan.

Assist Equipment Officer in the management of equipment, care of equipment, and

fine-tuning rigging for crews

Coordinate with UCC Captain, Assistant coaches, and the Equipment

Officer to ensure the most effective management of all UCC Rowing resources (boats,

oars, ergs, weight room access, meeting spaces)

6. Travel & Racing

Coordinate with Equipment Manager to ensure that the race calendar, equipment needs,

and trailer logistics are communicated in a timely manner.

Communicate details of race and travel logistics to all athletes in a consistent and timely

manner.

Collaborate with the Assistant Coaches, and UCC Captain in coordinating

with volunteers for training and race logistics.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in coaching rowing.

Proven success in coaching athletes at the international and highest national levels.

Strong communication and leadership skills.

Knowledge of latest training techniques and rowing equipment.

Ability to work collaboratively with coaching staff, athletes, and support personnel.

Ability to analyse performance data and adjust training programs accordingly.

Desired Qualifications:

BE Irish Trailer licence.

First Aid trained.

Completed TUSLA Child Safety First Training and Garda Vetting.
