CREGG Recruitment are hiring for an inventory controller / Junior Buyer to join a large medical device company in Galway
Job Purpose
To support the efficient procurement and management of inventory to ensure uninterrupted production in line with company demand.
The role combines inventory control responsibilities with junior buyer duties, helping to maintain accurate stock levels, minimize waste/obsolescence, and work with suppliers to secure materials/components at the right cost, quality, and time.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Control
Maintain accurate records of stock – incoming, outgoing, and internal transfers – using the company\'s ERP/MRP system.
Conduct regular cycle counts and periodic full stock takes; reconcile physical counts with system data and investigate discrepancies.
Monitor inventory levels, including safety stock, reorder levels, lead times and shelf life, especially for time-sensitive materials.
Manage the rotation of stock, ensuring first-expiry-first-out (FEFO) or similar, to reduce waste.
Handle expired, obsolete, or damaged stock – coordinate returns, disposals, or rework as per SOPs.
Support internal audit processes and ensure compliance with internal controls, regulatory requirements (medical device standards, ISO, FDA, etc.).
Generate and analyse inventory reports and KPIs (stock accuracy, inventory turnover, no stock situations, excess stock, etc.) to inform decision-making.
Collaborate with production, quality assurance, R&D, logistics to ensure materials/components are available to meet production schedules.
Junior Buyer Duties
Assist in the sourcing of materials/components required for production and R&D, considering cost, quality, lead times, and regulatory compliance.
Issue purchase orders, monitor and follow up on supplier deliveries to ensure on-time receipt of goods.
Maintain supplier relationships; track supplier performance (delivery time, quality, compliance) and flag issues.
Support cost-reduction initiatives – e.g. negotiating terms, seeking alternative suppliers, improving order consolidation.
Participate in spend analysis, demand forecasting, and budgeting/planning processes.
Assist in new product introduction (NPI) projects, ensuring procurement of new components to spec and schedule.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Degree or diploma in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, Logistics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Some experience (1-3 years) in inventory control, stock management, procurement or related function; experience in medical device manufacturing desirable.
