Naval Service Roles
The Naval Service is a professional and dynamic team that patrols and protects Ireland's territorial waters.
* General Service Recruits are the backbone of the Naval Service, beginning their careers with a 12-week training course focused on physical fitness, discipline, and basic military and naval skills.
* Upon completion, recruits advance to Ordinary Rate and begin branch-specific training in one of four areas: Seaman's, Communications, Mechanicians, or Supplies.
* Once qualified, members are promoted to Able Rate and assigned to a Naval Service ship, where they take part in a two-year sea rotation, including general maintenance, boat operations, firefighting, damage control, and participating in naval boarding teams during drug interdiction operations.
