Overview
The Mechanical Maintenance Interventions Engineer (Water) will play a vital role in identifying and addressing deficits of key assets. They will specify asset refurbishment or placement to restore and/or enhance capacity and performance of processes within and relating to Water Treatment Plants. The role applies asset management best practices to refurbishment/acquisition, operation, maintenance and eventual disposal of assets, with the goal of improving asset condition, service, resilience, energy efficiency and Opex.
The role focuses on Water treatment plants across nationwide assets and associated sites (e.g., Raw Water Intakes and Reservoirs). You will review data, collaborate with teams, and develop maintenance and capital investment plans for sites nationally.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
* Assess information relating to asset deficits identified by team colleagues or across the business.
* Review Site Energy Data, Energy Audit Reports and site performance data.
* Review Site Asset Condition Reports.
* Specify the scope of energy audits or condition surveys and other data gathering required.
* Review pump curves and pump performance data to determine existing or proposed pump suitability, energy performance and potential energy savings.
* Assess pump data for current performance and need for refurbishment or replacement.
* Specify short or long term instrumenting or data gathering techniques to assess asset performance.
* Review data and inspect other high-energy consuming water-related process assets (e.g., compressors, blowers) to assess condition and performance.
* Develop a prioritised plan for asset refurbishment or replacement within budgets.
* Derive insights from lessons learned to inform investment decisions, revise standards/specifications, and improve procurement practices for fast and efficient repair or replacement of assets, without impacting water quality or plant throughput.
* Regularly re-prioritise planned asset replacement based on evolving needs.
* Document and manage asset investment and capital interventions using Investment Planning and Maximo systems.
* Collaborate to review or establish preventive maintenance programs and asset performance monitoring practices and procedures.
* Write technical reports on asset condition, performance, safety or reliability issues.
* Ensure all asset assessment activities adhere to industry regulations, safety standards and company policies.
* Engage with stakeholders across Asset Planning, IDD and Operations to agree the nature, scope and practicality of asset replacement.
Skills & Experience
* Minimum of 5 years’ experience; Mechanical or Electrical engineering qualification or Mechanical or Electrical trades qualification or equivalent.
* Demonstrated experience related to the activities outlined above.
* Experience working with condition-based or planned maintenance teams within processing/manufacturing facilities or utilities.
* Knowledge of water treatment processes and pumps, pump assessment, and related power and control equipment is advantageous.
* Strong knowledge of process safety management.
* Full Clean driver’s licence (Class B).
* Excellent communication and reporting skills.
* Ability to build working relationships with stakeholders at varying technical levels.
