6 Months, Fixed Term, Whole-time post Applications are invited for the post of Research Assistant with a background in GIS to join the Coastal & Marine Science Communication, Stakeholder Engagement & Societal Impact (SCEI) research group, within the Coastal & Marine Systems (CMS) Research Area of the Sustainability Institute at University College Cork. The position is based at the Beaufort Building, Haulbowline Rd, Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork, Ireland. The successful candidate will join a multi-national, trans-disciplinary team contributing to the ALANIS project (Impacts of artificial light at night on pelagic ecosystems in European seas), funded through JPI Oceans. CMS is a key research area within UCC's Sustainability Institute, which is internationally recognised for environmental research dedicated to understanding and protecting the natural environment. The Institute focuses on developing innovative technologies, tools, and services to support the transition to a zero-carbon and resource-efficient society. Researchers within CMS bring over 30 years of experience in delivering both fundamental and applied research, supported by competitively awarded national and international funding. The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary research team with a focus on societal impact, science communication, outreach, and stakeholder engagement. The appointed applicant will contribute to the development of the ALANIS Web GIS, undertaking key responsibilities in geospatial data processing, analysis, and visualisation. This work will support the creation of accessible geospatial data products for integration into the project's Web-GIS platform. In addition, the candidate will support the development of StoryMaps for ALANIS and other research projects as they arise. Knowledge and understanding of Qimera, Python, Fledermaus geospatial analysis tools, ENVI, MaxEnt, SNAP, and Agisoft Metashape would be advantageous.
