This role requires a solid understanding of linux kernel, container and kubernetes, proficiency in programming languages such as Go, and Python.The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in the field, focusing on kernel development, os upgrading with regular time-manner. Additionally, you will contribute to open-source projects and implement observability practices to monitor and ensure the reliability of our systems.ResponsibilitiesDevelop stable and performance optimized Linux OS for kubernetes platform, build eBay in-house Linux kernel and OS imagesDesign, develop, and maintain optimized Linux OS upgrade management system.Manage different kinds of runtimes in eBay cloud, including container, kata and virtual machinesDevelop high-performance applications in Go, and Python.Contribute to kernel development and optimization for improved system performance.Develop the BPF based tools for eBay cloud OS issue diagnostics. Develop BPF/Cilium based network segmentation and mesh system.Implement observability tools and practices to monitor system performance and health.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to adopt/verify new optimized Linux OS.Contribute to open-source projects.Stay updated with the latest developments in kernel enhancements, and security practices.QualificationsBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.At least 5 years of proven experience on Linux, familiar with Linux kernel development, and have knowledge of OS internals, especially the basic components, like process scheduler, memory management, file system and network.Strong programming skills in C++, Go, and Python.Expertise in using Kubernetes for orchestrating containerized applications to build patching systems.Familiar with network protocol, especially TCP/IP stackExperience with observability tools and practices.Identifies gaps and issues across systems and functional areas, proposes solutions, and drives those resolutions.Champions best practices and advanced concepts and impacts the business by delivering solutions that address business needs.Ability to lead and empower others, taking responsibility for small projects and collaborating across functional teams to influence change.Actively seeks feedback and ways to improve team performance and projects, demonstrating strong communication skills.Preferred SkillsExperience with linux kernel development/triage.Experience contributing to open-source projects.Certifications in Kernel, networking, Kubernetes, or related fields.Understanding Linux kernel tracing technologies or BPF is a plus.Understanding Intel x86 architecture is a plus.Understanding Qemu/KVM/Openvswitch is a plus.Experience in a high-traffic, large-scale environment.Familiarity with additional programming languages or frameworks.Proficiency in Agile development methodologies.Please see the Talent Privacy Notice for information regarding how eBay handles your personal data collected when you use the eBay Careers website or apply for a job with eBay.eBay is an equal opportunity employer.
