Offer description

Location: Cork, Ireland | Type: Full-Time, Permanent | Reports to: Engineering Services Lead
Climeaction is an international industrial decarbonization and carbon intelligence company headquartered in Cork, Ireland with offices in Boston, MA. We work with major industrial clients across Life Science, Food Beverage, Manufacturing, and Energy sectors to deliver measurable energy savings and carbon reductions through our Climate Action as a Service (CAaaS®) model. We are B Corp and ISO 9001 certified.
The Mission
We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to take ownership of the engineering design of energy efficiency and decarbonization projects across our industrial client base. This is a role for someone who wants to lead designs end-to-end – from feasibility through detailed design and into commissioning – on projects typically ranging from €500k to €5m in value. You’ll work directly with clients, take technical ownership of mechanical utility systems, produce investment-grade design documentation, and collaborate with Climeaction’s wider engineering team to deliver projects that make a real difference.
Responsibilities

Take full ownership of mechanical engineering designs for energy efficiency and decarbonization projects across industrial facilities, from concept through detailed design to commissioning support.
Produce all necessary design documentation including specifications, general arrangement drawings, PIDs, single line diagrams, equipment schedules, and technical reports.
Perform engineering calculations for mechanical systems including heat load analysis, pipe sizing, pump selection, pressure drop calculations, and system balancing.
Design and specify modifications to core utility systems including Steam, LPHW, Chilled Water, HVAC, Cooling Towers, Compressed Air, and other industrial utilities.
Develop detailed project scopes, bills of quantities, and cost estimates for projects in the €500k to €5m range.
Work directly with clients – presenting design solutions, managing technical queries, and building trusted engineering relationships.
Coordinate with contractors, equipment suppliers, and specialist consultants during procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.
Carry out site surveys, condition assessments, and energy audits to inform design decisions and identify optimization opportunities.
Contribute to Climeaction’s technical standards and design best practices, and mentor junior engineers as the team grows.

Qualifications

Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
7+ years’ experience in mechanical design engineering, with a strong focus on industrial or building services utility systems.
Demonstrable experience designing systems across Steam, LPHW, CHW, HVAC, Cooling Towers, and/or Compressed Air.
Proven ability to take ownership of engineering designs on projects in the €500k–€5m range, from feasibility through to construction and commissioning.
Strong technical writing and documentation skills – comfortable producing specifications, technical reports, and design calculations to an investment-grade standard.
Experience working directly with clients, managing technical relationships, and presenting design solutions with confidence.
Proficient in AutoCAD and/or Revit MEP. Familiarity with engineering calculation tools and energy modelling software.
Full clean driving license.
Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards chartership with Engineers Ireland, IMechE, CIBSE, or equivalent.
Experience with BIM coordination and clash detection on mechanical services projects.
Background in pharmaceutical, life science, food beverage, or heavy manufacturing environments.

Benefits

Company Car provided.
Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
25 days’ annual leave plus public holidays.
Pension scheme with employer contribution (5%).
Flexible working arrangements – mix of office, site, and remote.
Professional development support including chartership progression and CPD.
Work alongside a growing team of world‑class decarbonization engineers across Ireland and the US.
Real impact – every project you design moves the needle on measurable energy and carbon reduction.
