About Our Research

About the School of Population Health
Established in ****, the School of Population Health (SPH) builds on existing strengths at RCSI in behavioural science for population health, analytic and population health sciences.
The School comprises the Department of Public Health and Epidemiology, Department of Health Psychology, Data Science Centre, Healthcare Outcomes Research Centre (HORC), Institute of Global Surgery and SPHeRE (Structured Population health, Policy and Health Services Research Education – national doctoral programme).
It included some 103 academic, research and professional staff, as well as 46 PhD scholars.Population health scientists and researchers at RCSI have an impressive, multi-year track record undertaking impactful multi-disciplinary research and collaborating with an extensive network of international and national partners.
Summary of Post
We have a full-time research assistant position available in the School of Population Health, suitable for an epidemiologist, public health researcher, data scientist or statistician with excellent analytical, project management and communication skills.
The successful candidate will work with a multi-disciplinary team on a series of funded projects aimed at understanding the public health burden and impact of chronic conditions in Ireland as well as the impact of integrated care programmes on long-term outcomes of chronic conditions.
This will include Health Service Executive (HSE) funded projects studying the burden and care of chronic lung disease and Health Research Board (HRB)-funded projects of the levels of diabetes care, complications, and impact of health policies.
Specific the duties of the post include:
To work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) and research team to ensure all project deliverables are met.
Conduct literature reviews and evidence synthesis related to chronic disease epidemiology and prevention.
Conduct epidemiologic/statistical analyses of studies assessing prevalence and incidence of chronic lung disease, diabetes and pre-diabetes, and multiple long-term conditions.
Prepare and implement data management plan to ensure a secure data environment.
Coordinate the meetings and communications of the study team progress.
Assemble and collate findings of ongoing studies to prepare formal scientific reports and peer-reviewed studies.
Contribute to the development of, and where appropriate, lead the writing of peer-reviewed publications.
Co-ordination of own day-to-day work to support ongoing projects.
Contribute to the weekly coordination and administration of ongoing research projects.
Develop final report with recommendations for patients, clinicians, and health policy makers.
Contribute to dissemination of research findings including conference presentations, peer-reviewed articles, Social Media content, and policy briefs.
Prepare research ethics applications.
Qualifications – (Essential):
MSc in Data Science, Biostatistics, Applied Mathematics, Health Services Research, Public Health, Population Health sciences, Epidemiology, or related discipline.
Knowledge & Experience – (Essential):
Documented research experience with epidemiology, biostatistics, or health services research
Willingness and experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
Excellent organisational, interpersonal, report writing and IT skills
Attention to detail and deadlines
Experience in evidence synthesis, stakeholder engagement and project
Research experience with literature review, data collection from different stakeholder groups.
Advanced skills in using Stata or R.
Machine Learning approaches to statistical analyses
Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills
