HGV Mechanic - Castlebar, Co. Mayo A well-established provider of waste management and recycling solutions is seeking a fully qualified HGV Mechanic to join their team in Castlebar, County Mayo.

Role Overview The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, servicing, and repair of a varied fleet of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs).
This includes refuse collection vehicles (RCVs), hook loaders, chain skip loaders, and both articulated and rigid curtain-sided lorries.
You must be fully qualified, with a strong background in HGV mechanics, covering engines, cabs, chassis, hydraulic systems, and lifting equipment.
General HGV experience is essential, and training will be provided for any specialist equipment where required.
Key Responsibilities Carry out routine maintenance, servicing, and repairs on a wide range of HGVs, including brakes, suspension, engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults.
Prepare vehicles for CVRT, LOLER inspections, and regular 13-week safety checks.
Conduct safety inspections and ensure all vehicles meet legal and operational standards.
Replace worn or defective components including tyres, brake systems, and steering parts.
Maintain accurate records of services, repairs, inspections, and parts usage.
Liaise with workshop staff and external contractors to ensure timely repairs and minimal downtime.
Attend breakdowns when required and perform necessary roadside repairs.
Follow all health and safety procedures and maintain a clean, safe working environment.
Requirements Fully qualified HGV Mechanic (QQI Level 6 or equivalent).
Proven experience in a similar role involving commercial vehicle maintenance.
Strong diagnostic and fault-finding abilities.
Proficient in the use of diagnostic tools and workshop equipment.
Familiar with health and safety practices in a mechanical workshop.
Capable of working independently and within a team.
Full driving licence (HGV licence desirable but not essential).
Strong communication skills in spoken and written English.
