About Children’s Health Ireland (CHI)
Children’s Health Ireland is transforming paediatric healthcare by integrating services from Crumlin, Temple Street, Tallaght, and Connolly into a single national service. We are building a new, world-class children’s hospital on the St James’s campus and delivering care across urgent care centres and hospitals in Dublin.
We offer innovative, child-centred, and compassionate healthcare services, preparing for a digital-first future in our state-of-the-art new facility.
The Role
We are seeking a Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) to join our dynamic cross-city PEM team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality emergency and urgent care across multiple CHI sites, supporting a consultant-led service 16 hours a day, 7 days a week. This role includes on-call duties, weekend and evening commitments, and involvement in our short stay observation unit, with the goal of delivering safe, responsive care for children and young people.

- Participate in the on-call rota and major trauma team.
- Lead and support multidisciplinary teams.
- Engage in teaching, research, clinical audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to the development and integration of emergency care services in preparation for the transition to the new hospital.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Applicants must:
- Be registered in the Specialist Division of the Irish Medical Council in Emergency Medicine or Paediatrics.
- Have at least 2 years’ postgraduate experience in related specialties, including 1 full year in Paediatric Emergency Medicine.
Ideal Candidate

- Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
- Committed to excellence in clinical governance, teaching, and innovation.
- Knowledgeable about the Irish healthcare system, national clinical programmes, and reform agendas.
