Microbiology Medical Scientist (Part Time)
BD Nogales Norte is seeking a Microbiology Medical Scientist to support our microbiology laboratory operations on a part‑time basis.
The role is hands‑on and lab‑based, focusing on preparation of microbial cultures and reagents, performing microbiological tests, maintaining equipment, managing inventory, and ensuring strict adherence to GLP and biosafety protocols. The candidate will collaborate with EHS, Facilities, and cross‑functional teams to uphold health, safety, and quality standards.
Main Responsibilities
* Support safe and efficient operation of the laboratory and ensure adherence to all health, safety, and quality standards.
* Write, maintain and enforce procedures related to laboratory activities and testing equipment.
* Assist in training non‑scientific staff and facilitate visits by professional visitors.
* Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and perform microbiological testing.
* Support and contribute to audit activities and the implementation of best‑practice procedures.
* Collaborate with staff to introduce new ideas and technologies.
* Maintain inventory logs, monitor supplies, and restock as needed.
* Ensure compliance with quality assurance standards and biosafety regulations, including routine safety checks and walkthroughs.
Qualifications
About you
* Registered on the Medical Scientists Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU.
* Possessed or eligible for fellowship (FAMLS) or equivalent.
* Member or eligible for membership of the Academy of Medical Laboratory Science (MAMLS) or equivalent.
Experience
* Experience in a Hospital Laboratory Microbiology setting.
* At least 2 years post‑qualification experience.
* Excellent communication and presentation skills.
* Strong teamwork, interpersonal, planning, and organisational skills.
* Up‑to‑date knowledge of ISO 15189 lab quality requirements.
* Knowledge of antimicrobiology susceptibility testing and guidelines.
* Familiar with laboratory information systems.
Role Compensation
€25,000 – 30,000 per annum (Part‑time hours).
