Job Description
Home Manager – Starting salary €56,256.00 per year.
Job Purpose
To manage the home in accordance with its Statement of Purpose and ensure a safe, caring environment following relevant childcare legislation, national standards, and Ashdale Care policies.
About The Role
Key Responsibilities
Ensure care practices comply with legislation and national standards.
Promote high standards of physical care, hygiene, and safety for all children.
Manage the home to meet children’s expressed needs and promote positive outcomes.
Participate in pre‑admission and admission processes, developing individual care plans.
Implement and monitor care plans per agreed standards.
Attend and contribute to planning meetings, statutory reviews, and management team meetings.
Advocate for children and families in meetings and reports.
Maintain working relationships with parents, social workers, teachers, doctors, and agencies.
Seek and act on children’s views and wishes where appropriate.
Integrate the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and Person‑Centred Planning (PCP) models and evaluate their application.
Provide monthly summary reports and weekly reports on placements to the Social Worker.
Attend court and furnish updated court reports.
Provide regular statistics for the census of young people.
Conduct audits of care standards and engage young people in the process.
Develop and implement governance systems for continuous service improvement.
Foster links between the home and the local community.
Staff Management
Provide leadership and guidance to the staff team.
Organise and manage staff to maintain 24‑hour coverage and consistent care.
Induct new staff and ensure they understand their roles.
Provide professional supervision and participate in staff appraisals.
Communicate operational practice and manage handovers and record‑keeping.
Assist staff with written reports.
Implement human resource policies, including selection, appraisal, and absence management.
Promote a positive learning and development culture.
Develop an annual training and development plan based on needs analysis.
Management of Finances
Assist with budgetary control, monthly returns, mileage sheets, and accounts.
Ensure staff follows financial procedures for allowances, pocket money, clothing, and petty cash.
Submit monthly petty cash returns to the Financial Controller.
Management of Resources
Create a home environment that is homely and recognizable to children.
Maintain a safe environment complying with health and safety and legal requirements.
Oversee maintenance of building, grounds, equipment, and vehicles.
Personal
Promote high standards of childcare practice.
Address poor practice immediately and report to the Operations Manager.
Develop professional knowledge through supervision, courses, and study days.
Participate in a duty rota and sleep‑in duties as needed.
Supervise students where appropriate, upon completion of practice teacher or similar training.

Required Criteria
Minimum Level 8 degree in Social Care/Work.
A full clean driving licence with access to a car.
