Job Profile
As a HGV Mechanic, you will be responsible for diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, performing routine servicing, and ensuring vehicle safety and compliance with regulations. You will work on a variety of tasks including:
* Diagnosing and repairing faults: Identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) and conduct necessary repairs.
* Routine maintenance: Perform regular servicing, including oil changes, brake adjustments, and inspections, to ensure vehicles meet safety and operational standards.
* Engine overhauls: Conduct major engine repairs or overhauls when necessary, including component replacement and system reconditioning.
* Electrical system repair: Troubleshoot and repair vehicle electrical systems, including lighting, wiring, and onboard electronics.
* Brake and suspension systems: Maintain and repair braking systems, suspension components, and other critical safety features.
* Compliance with regulations: Ensure all repairs and maintenance meet legal and manufacturer standards, including health and safety regulations.
* Record-keeping: Maintain accurate service records and reports on all work performed.
* Collaboration: Work closely with other mechanics, parts suppliers, and service managers to ensure efficient workflow.
Required Expertise
To succeed in this role, you will need:
* NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent qualification.
* Full Driving Licence – HGV license a bonus.
* Experience in a similar role.
* Flexibility, willing to carry out a variety of tasks/activities requested and prepared to work additional hours as may be necessary from time to time.
