At Dornan we are currently recruiting for a Design Manager to work from our Cork operations.
Your day to day will include:
The Design Manager will be responsible for the end-to-end design strategy and delivery of hyperscale data centre programmes, acting as the single point of accountability for design from greenfield concept through to commissioning and handover.
Based in Cork, the role supports projects in Northern Europe (primarily Germany or Denmark) and will require travel to project sites during the design phase.
Reporting to the Pre-Construction Director, you will ensure designs are delivered on schedule, within budget, and fully compliant with technical and regulatory requirements.
What we are looking for:
Define and implement the design strategy and delivery plan for large-scale data centre projects.
Lead design across all phases including feasibility, planning, developed design, IFC, and handover.
Manage internal teams and external design consultants across CSA and MEP disciplines.
Establish and oversee design governance processes, including reviews, RFIs/RFCs, change control, and design assurance.
Lead interdisciplinary design reviews, including IDC/IDR, HAZID/HAZOP, and constructability assessments.
Oversee BIM coordination and digital delivery using tools such as Revit, Navisworks, and Common Data Environments.
Ensure designs comply with building codes, grid/utility requirements, and client technical standards.
Manage the design risk register and mitigate impacts to programme and cost.
Align design delivery with procurement strategy and long-lead equipment requirements.
Drive value engineering and off-site manufacturing opportunities.
Monitor and report design progress, KPIs, budget, and schedule performance.
Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering
Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent.
PMP / Prince2 or similar project management certification.
LEED AP or BREEAM Assessor
Design safety certification such as CDM / PSDP.
