The Role.
The GMC Environmental Manager will be reporting into the GMC Group Sustainability Manager and will have overall environmental responsibilities for a project portfolio which includes ensuring environmental & sustainability compliance and environmental best practices are implemented and adhered to across a portfolio of projects.
The Environmental Manager will play a central role in minimising environmental impacts, maintaining compliance with Irish legislation, ISO 14001, and supporting the delivery of the project from an environmental perspective.
Key Duties and Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Key Responsibilities:
Provide support in environmental management to the project teams.
Conduct environmental assessments, including site investigations, impact assessments etc.
Carry out a schedule of environmental audits in accordance with the contract, GMC and the Clients requirements.
Prepare, implement and manage environmental management plans such as CEMP, RWMP, EERP and supporting documentation.
Manage and deliver monthly Environmental KPI's as per the contract.
Develop Waste Classification Reports and ensure waste is managed and disposed of in compliance with legal and permit requirements.
Monitor site activities to ensure compliance with CEMP, planning conditions, and regulatory standards.
Lead environmental incident and near-miss investigations, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
Maintain and update environmental SOPs in line with legal requirements and ISO 14001.
Provide training and support to colleagues and junior team members on environmental practices.
Liaise with clients, regulators, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure project compliance.

The Candidate: Required Experience and Competencies:
Relevant Environmental Engineering / Science degree (or equivalent qualification).
Minimum 5-7 years' experience in the environmental sector (civil, utilities, or construction experience highly desirable).
Full clean driver's licence essential.
Strong technical and analytical skills with proven report writing ability.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Strong IT proficiency (MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint).
