Job Description
Purpose
The Category Manager (API, Intermediates, Starting Materials) leads the implementation of category procurement strategy, developed in partnership with Category Directors and VP-level business stakeholders. This role oversees the end-to-end procurement process, manages a team of Specialists to ensure excellence in all activities and policy compliance. The Category Manager develops team capabilities and assists leadership in identifying workforce planning needs.
Responsibilities
* Partner with Director/VP-level business or functional stakeholders to develop category-specific procurement strategies and contribute to the annual strategic plan for the relevant category, aligning with overall business goals.
* Relay insights and market intelligence from team analysis to Directors and Associate Directors to inform strategic decisions; stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and market dynamics.
* Manage strategic value drivers with key category suppliers to secure collaborative partnerships that drive cost savings, process optimization, and procurement value.
* Manage and monitor supplier performance on sustainability and ESG measures, working with suppliers to enhance sustainable sourcing practices.
* Enable Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) strategies, driving innovation with key category suppliers and collaborating on long-term business needs.
* Implement mitigation strategies to proactively manage procurement risk across the category, ensuring process and policy compliance.
* Ensure effective project management from initiation to completion, guiding cross-functional teams to deliver category-related projects.
* Identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency gains, using data analytics to support long-term continuous improvement programs.
* Assist with end-to-end procurement from sourcing strategy to contract negotiation and execution, supporting negotiations and facilitating informed decisions.
* Lead and develop the team, monitor progress toward performance targets, and address workforce requirements with action plans.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
* Minimum of 7 years of experience in procurement, supply chain, or related function.
* Experience managing teams in procurement and leading supplier relationships.
* Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Power Platform).
* Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry preferred.
* Specific expertise in category management, market analysis, cost and financial assessment, and strategic procurement decisions.
* Ability to assist in negotiation and bidding; adept at managing complex projects with change management.
* Strong ability to build and manage collaborative supplier relationships aligned with business needs.
* Innovative problem-solving, solution-focused mindset, and strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills.
* Strong interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and an autonomous work ethic; ability to build consensus and navigate a matrixed organization.
