Position Overview:
The Operations Manager will oversee all aspects of operations at the Client Tralee facility, including production, logistics, stock management, maintenance activities, and project implementation.
The role will focus on achieving consistent production performance, developing robust operational systems, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage daily operational activities across production, logistics, stock management, and maintenance.
Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all critical tasks.
Establish and maintain effective non-conformance recording and review processes.
Review and update standard work and role definitions to ensure clarity, achievable expectations, and accountability.
Implement training plans to provide coverage for critical positions across all shifts.
Set clear KPI targets aligned with business goals and ensure effective communication channels between shifts, departments, and leadership.
Monitor operational performance, initially focusing on eliminating variation to achieve a stable production baseline.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including OEE monitoring, once stability is achieved.
Ensure compliance with regulatory, quality, safety, and environmental standards (e.g., GMP, ISO).
Lead and develop a high-performing team, promoting a results-driven and collaborative culture.
Support future expansion projects, product introductions, and technology upgrades once a robust operational platform is in place.
(First 3–6 Months)
Develop SOPs for all critical activities.
Implement effective non-conformance and review systems.
Align team roles, responsibilities, and expectations.
Establish training coverage for critical positions.
Set and communicate clear KPIs reflecting company objectives.
Strengthen communication structures (meetings, reports, visual management tools).
Team Structure-
Direct responsibility for approximately 20 staff, including:
Production: Three-cycle shifts (Monday to Friday) with 3 operators per shift in processing, 3 packing operators on day shift.
Supervision: Two supervisors.
Warehouse: One warehouse operator.
Maintenance: A team of around twelve.
Reporting Line:
Reports directly to the Plant Manager.
Key Performance Indicators:
Achievement of production stability through standard work implementation.
Consistent delivery of output, quality, safety, and compliance KPIs.
Reduction of operational variation and improvement of efficiency metrics (e.g., OEE) over time.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Life Sciences, Engineering, Biotechnology, or related discipline.
Significant operations management experience (ideally 5+ years) in biotech, pharma, or life sciences manufacturing.
Proven track record in developing operational systems, team leadership, and process optimisation.
Excellent communication, organisational, and stakeholder management skills.

This is a demanding role requiring a resilient and results-driven leader who can align teams to shared goals, ensure accountability, and manage change effectively.
While Client has been in production since 2019, the transition from process development to streamlined operations is ongoing.
