Post Summary: The School of Nursing and Midwifery is seeking a highly experienced Finance and Research Manager to oversee financial operations, including the annual core budget process, self-financing activities, and research funding. As the School undergoes strategic growth and development, this role is pivotal in directing financial planning, resource allocation, and policy development. The postholder will provide expert financial analysis to support informed decision-making, ensuring financial stability and long-term growth. Leading a team of nine finance professionals, they will implement best practices in financial governance, compliance, and strategic resource management. Their financial expertise will support all aspects of the Schools operations, including education and program development, global expansion, research strategy and capacity building, as well as capital development projects. Context: The School Research and Finance Manager will oversee financial and research operations, ensuring robust financial controls and long-term sustainability. They will work closely with senior management to support financial planning, performance evaluation, and risk mitigation strategies. Managing the Schools €12M+ annual budget, the postholder will lead the budgeting process, provide critical financial insights, and align funding strategies with the Schools strategic objectives. Their role includes enhancing financial management efficiency, driving process improvements, and maintaining fiscal integrity across the School and its Research Centres. Main Responsibilities: Financial Analysis & Reporting Conduct in-depth financial analysis across multiple school activities, identifying trends and providing actionable insights to support strategic decision-making and optimize resource allocation. Prepare comprehensive financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial regulations. Develop financial forecasting models to support strategic planning, identifying risks and opportunities for financial stability. Collaborate with senior leadership to provide financial recommendations that align with school priorities. Budgeting & Financial Planning Lead the development of multi-year financial plans, incorporating scenario analysis and forecasting to ensure sustainable financial growth. Oversee the budgeting process, ensuring financial resources are allocated effectively to meet operational and strategic goals. Optimize financial systems to improve budgetary control and reporting efficiency. Evaluate and provide strategic recommendations on staffing budgets, succession planning, and long-term resource allocation. Financial Advice and Oversight Act as a key financial advisor to the Head of School and School Manager, providing expert analysis and strategic recommendations. Ensure compliance with all legal, financial, and institutional regulations, mitigating financial and regulatory risks. Represent the School in financial negotiations with funding agencies, government bodies, and external partners. Develop and implement internal financial controls to reduce risk, strengthen the Schools financial position and enhance accountability. Management & Strategic planning Work closely with senior academic and administrative staff to develop financial strategies aligned with School objectives. Lead and mentor a team of finance professionals, fostering skills development and operational excellence. Oversee financial processes related to procurement, expenses, and research funding, ensuring efficiency and compliance. Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track financial and operational performance. Support research growth by overseeing the financial management of grants and funding initiatives. Collaborate with the Director of Research to devise strategies for research development, esponding to sector-specific opportunities and challenges. Engage with Financial Services Division, Faculty Finance Partners and external stakeholders to strengthen financial partnerships and optimize resource utilization. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to undertake any other duties that may be required as directed by the Head of School or the School Manager. Post status: Permanent Hours of Post: 35 hours per week Salary: This appointment will be made on the Administrative 1 (Points 1-3), Salary Scale (€69,545- €89,965 per annum) at a point in line with current Government pay policy.
