Associate Director, Risk, Data Governance
MUFG Investor Services seeks an Associate Director, Risk, Data Governance to lead the implementation and oversight of MUFG’s data governance framework under the direction of the Head of Data Governance. The role ensures data is treated as a strategic asset, supporting regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and risk mitigation. The role works cross-functionally with business, risk, compliance, and technology teams to embed data governance principles across the organisation and support the overall Risk and Compliance Management frameworks.
Role and Responsibilities
* Support the Head of Data Governance in rolling out the Data Governance framework at MUFG.
* Create and maintain policies and procedures in accordance with data management best practices; raise awareness across IT, Business and Supporting Functions.
* Collaborate with the Business Data Office, Data Owners & Stewards, and Data Strategy group to create a target state operating model for data management, including:
o A Data Catalogue
o Data Taxonomy
o Monitoring and identification of Critical Data Assets (Critical Data Elements)
o Metadata Management
o Data Quality Assessments
o Data issue management and remediation
o Data Maturity assessments
* Assign ownership of data with a clear RACI matrix across the organisation.
* Develop and maintain an Enterprise Level Data Scorecard to showcase progress across data management capabilities and reporting for committees.
* Develop foundational data governance training and promote data literacy and a strong Data Culture within the organisation.
* Support wider company efforts and projects from a Data Governance perspective for new business, products, services, locations, and other strategic initiatives.
* Undertake ad hoc projects and initiatives as required to support Data Governance and the wider Risk and Compliance Frameworks.
Skills and Knowledge
* Understanding of data governance frameworks and their implementation.
* Knowledge of data lifecycle management, metadata and lineage, data quality, ownership, and access management.
* Issue management: designing and overseeing escalation paths and remediation workflows.
* Data analysis and problem-solving skills.
* Policy development: drafting, reviewing and maintaining policies and procedures for data governance.
* Risk and control frameworks: embedding governance in 1LOD/2LOD structures.
* Reporting: creating reports to showcase data risks and issues.
* Scorecard development to complement reports.
* Knowledge of data maturity assessments and best practices.

Qualifications
Undergraduate Degree
* Bachelor’s degree in information management, risk, business, or related field.
Professional Certifications
* CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional – DAMA)
* DCAM (Data Management Capability Assessment Model)
* CMIP (Certified Information Management Professional)
Professional Experience
* 5+ years of experience in data governance, risk management, or compliance within financial services.
* Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, data lifecycle management, and regulatory requirements.
* Experience with data governance tools (e.g. MDM, data catalogs, data quality platforms).
* Strong understanding of AWS and M365 products desirable.
* Proven ability to influence stakeholders and drive cross-functional initiatives.
