We’re seeking an experienced B2B Payments Subject Matter Expert with strong acquirer‑side experience, specialising in B2B merchant onboarding, to support the design and delivery of scalable B2B card acceptance for suppliers.
This is a high‑impact contract role where you’ll act as the B2B acquiring and merchant onboarding expert, working closely across sales, product, risk, operations and technology to ensure suppliers can be onboarded efficiently, compliantly and commercially.
The focus is firmly on B2B onboarding models, operational readiness and real‑world enablement — making sure solutions genuinely work for suppliers, buyers and internal team.
This role will suit someone who combines deep B2B payments expertise with the ability to programme‑manage delivery, align stakeholders, and turn complex onboarding requirements into practical process.
Key Responsibilities
Act as the B2B merchant onboarding SME from an acquiring and card‑scheme perspective
Shape and support end‑to‑end B2B merchant onboarding journeys, from pre‑sales through to live acceptance
Advise on B2B‑specific onboarding and operational considerations, including pre‑sales supplier data gathering and onboarding requirements
Resolving common supplier pain points (late payments, long terms, reconciliation challenges)
Chargebacks, fraud handling and exception management
Credit risk and underwriting considerations for B2B merchants
Buyer volumes, transaction values, and geographic implications
Gross vs net settlement
Enable merchants to support straight‑through processing (STP) and receivables solutions (e.g. Mastercard Receivables Manager), with a focus on awareness and adoption rather than deep technical breadth
Support contractual and T&C updates relevant to B2B onboarding, including data usage and third‑party solutions
Create merchant‑facing enablement and training materials, including supplier portal guidance
Programme‑manage delivery across multiple stakeholders, owning timelines, dependencies and alignment
Qualifications
Proven experience in B2B card payments within an acquirer, payments provider or card‑scheme environment
Strong understanding of B2B merchant onboarding and how it differs from B2C
Card scheme knowledge essential (Visa or MasterCard)
Comfortable operating as a subject‑matter expert who also drives delivery
Able to translate complex B2B onboarding and payments concepts into clear, practical guidance
Experienced working with sales, product, risk and operations teams
Awareness of STP and invoice‑to‑payment reconciliation challenges in B2B environments (deep technical expertise not required)
This is a focused, six‑month engagement.
You’ll have genuine influence, clear ownership, and exposure to senior stakeholders across payments, product and operations.
