Features Writer
At the Irish Daily Mail we have an exciting opportunity for a talented Features Writer to join our team.
Role Summary
Reporting to the Features Editor, the Features Writer creates original, insightful, compelling and in-depth news and human interest features for our Irish Daily Mail readers.
Key responsibilities include:
* Identifying and researching potential features content of interest to the newspaper's readers.
* Generating original features ideas to the weekly features news conferences.
* Carefully crafting engaging specialist stories on people, events, topics and issues for the newspaper's readers.
* Producing concise and accurate copy, validated and verified in accordance with the Irish Daily Mail's codes as well as the Press Council of Irelands' Press Code of Practice.
* Producing features articles in accordance with press house style and to strict deadlines.
* Building key contacts to maintain a flow of features content.
* Working on other ad hoc stories as assigned by the editor.
* Confer with the Features Editor regarding news and story priorities.
* Seeking out, exploring and investigating stories via your contacts, press conferences and other media.
* Attending press conferences, asking questions and reporting on same.
* Other relevant ad hoc tasks and projects.
Essential Skills / Experience:
* Relevant 3rd level qualification or equivalent.
* 3+ years' experience gained in a similar role.
* Strong written and oral communications skills.
* Good knowledge of news, politics and current affairs.
* Creative writer with excellent grammar, attention to detail and accuracy in their work.
* Good organisational skills and ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines.
* Ability to grasp complex issues quickly and explain them in simple, concise language.
* Determination, flexibility, persistence, motivation and integrity.
* Flexibility regarding working patterns.
