Job Description:
Clinical nursing specialists are pivotal in radiation oncology. The team delivers comprehensive patient care, encompassing physical, psychological, social, and spiritual elements.
The key responsibilities of a clinical nurse specialist include serving as a resource for staff and patients, providing education on radiotherapy treatments, and advocating for patients to ensure informed decision-making.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
* Provide specialist nursing services for patients with cancer diagnoses, requiring support and treatment throughout the care continuum.
* Maintain effective communication structures and interpersonal relationships with multidisciplinary teams.
* Conduct comprehensive patient assessments using best evidence-based practices in cancer care.
* Develop and implement plans of care in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and the patient, family, and/or carer as appropriate.
Indirect Care:
* Identify and agree upon appropriate referral pathways for patients with cancer.
* Participate in case review with MDT colleagues.
* Employ a case management approach to patients with complex needs in collaboration with the MDT in both primary and secondary care settings as necessary.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Current registration as a nurse/midwife on the active Register of Nurses/Midwives held by the relevant regulatory body.
* Oncology qualification from an accredited institution or willingness to undertake the course and in-house training.
* Recognised post-registration nursing course – Higher Diploma or Post Grad course or pursuit of same.
* Minimum 3 years of full-time post-registration experience in the specialist area of Cancer Care.
