Automation Engineer – Medical Device Automation

The Opportunity
A rapidly growing automation and engineering company is seeking an Automation Engineer to join their expanding team. This organisation specialises in the design and delivery of high-spec, custom automation solutions for the medical device and life sciences sector. Working from concept through to commissioning, you’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team driving innovation in advanced manufacturing technologies.
Key Responsibilities
As an Automation Engineer, your role will focus on the development and integration of automated control systems for bespoke machinery used in clean and regulated environments.
You will:
* Design and program PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, motion systems, and robotics
* Define software requirements and develop supporting documentation in compliance with safety and CE marking standards
* Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and process teams throughout the full project lifecycle
* Lead testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of automation systems both on-site and at customer locations
* Contribute to ongoing development of automation templates, software libraries, and engineering standards
What You Bring
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in automation design and systems integration for machinery or production equipment
* Hands-on expertise with Allen Bradley, Siemens, or Omron platforms
* Knowledge of robotics (KUKA or Fanuc), servo/motion control, machine vision systems, and safety PLCs
* Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, or Controls Engineering (Level 8 or equivalent)
* Strong problem-solving abilities and ability to work in cross-functional engineering teams
* Experience working within GMP, ISO, or other regulated industry frameworks is highly desirable
