Trade Counter Role
We are looking for a Trade Counter professional to join our team.
* The successful candidate will be responsible for welcoming trade and retail customers, identifying requirements and offering product guidance.
* They will process orders, quotations and returns accurately using the point-of-sale system, as well as pick, pack and hand-over stock from the warehouse or arrange delivery where required.
* Maintaining an organised, well-stocked counter and showroom area is crucial, ensuring product displays are tidy and up to date.
* Promoting special offers and upselling complementary products to maximise sales is key to this role.
* The Trade Counter Assistant will support stock control: book goods in, carry out cycle counts and liaise with the warehouse on discrepancies.
* Handling payments, refunds and basic cash-up procedures at the end of shift is also part of this job.
* Responding to phone and email enquiries promptly, providing pricing and availability information is essential.
* This role involves working closely with the branch manager and external sales team to meet branch targets.
* Following all health, safety and manual-handling guidelines on site is a must.
About You
* Previous experience in a trade counter, builders' merchant, DIY, plumbing or heating environment is highly desirable.
* A strong customer-service background with confident, clear communication skills is vital.
* Good numerical ability and basic IT skills (EPOS and MS Office) are necessary.
* A hands-on approach and willingness to learn product ranges quickly are essential.
* Organised, reliable and able to multitask in a fast-moving setting is key to success in this role.
* Comfortable with manual handling and working in a warehouse/counter mix is important.
* A forklift licence (counterbalance or reach) would be beneficial but not essential.
* A full driving licence would be advantageous for occasional local deliveries.
