Job Description
Lead the power supply systems design (Traction, MV, LV) for Electrification & Plant related activities, including for DC or AC based rail systems.
Act as technical authority for electrical power related matters (such as LV power for Signalling and Telecoms) and traction power.
Demonstrate thorough knowledge of traction power supply principles including an understanding of major feeding and sectioning principles.
Coordinate and apply for DNO supply connections and substation interfaces on behalf of clients.
Perform and organise traction power substation layout detailed design, calculate cable sizing, design earthing and bonding, and carry out LV protection calculations, including technical specification for Substations.
Manage the allocated team to produce single line diagram, substation layout, power balance, etc.
Have a working knowledge/experience of EMI, EMC, and E&B in relation to power applications.
Provide on-site design support during the construction and T&C phases of traction power substations and assess safety practice during works.
Discharge safety responsibilities in relation to construction regulations, Health and Safety legislation, Company procedures including development of the project Safety Plan, e.g. Designer Risk Assessments, Hazard Log, HAZID and HAZOP.
Qualifications
Essential (minimum requirement for interview):
Educated to degree level in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Significant experience in traction power design within the rail or LRT sector.
Experience with 750 V or **** V DC systems and catenary systems.
Experience delivering multi-disciplinary projects; experience on major projects is desirable.
Experience with design, project management and/or simulation/modelling tools (e.g., BIM software, ProjectWise, AutoCAD, ETAP).
Knowledge of other railway LV systems including stop power and signalling power supplies.
Desirable
Chartered Engineer (e.g., IET).
Knowledge of 1x25kV or 2x25 kV AC systems; familiarity with Irish Rail or Network Rail is advantageous.
Experience in site acceptance testing and commissioning of traction power substations.
Holder of licenses to visit and operate within traction substations.
Knowledge of EMC/EMI standards and legislation.
