I'm urgently seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Authorised Person (Senior AP) to take a leadership role in managing the safe operation, authorisation, and compliance of electrical systems within a state-of-the-art data centre based in Frankfurt, Germany.
This role carries overarching responsibility for electrical safety, including HV and LV switching, safe systems of work, and permit control, while also supervising a team of APs and technicians.
As Senior AP, you will act as the primary authority for electrical safety and play a key role in ensuring that the data centre maintains maximum uptime in a highly critical environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Serve as the highest level of electrical authorisation within the data centre.
* Lead and manage a team of Appointed Persons (APs), Authorised Persons, and Electrical Technicians.
* Develop, implement, and audit Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) including
Permits to Work
,
Sanctions for Test
, and
Limitations of Access
.
* Supervise and approve HV/LV switching operations, isolations, and energisation.
* Review and sign off risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) for electrical activities.
* Act as the escalation point for complex, high-risk, or business-critical electrical operations.
* Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
* Provide mentoring, training, and competence assessments for APs and technical staff.
* Ensure compliance with Electricity at Work Regulations, IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671), and applicable EU/German standards.
* Liaise with senior management, clients, and regulators on all aspects of electrical safety and compliance.
* Contribute to strategic planning for electrical infrastructure, upgrades, and resilience projects.
Skills & Experience Required
* Recognised electrical engineering qualification (apprenticeship, HNC/HND, or degree).
* Previous experience as a Senior Electrical Appointed Person or Lead AP in a data centre, power generation, utilities, or critical environment.
* Proven competence in HV/LV switching and isolation procedures.
* In-depth knowledge of UPS, generators, switchgear, PDUs, ATS/STS, and electrical distribution.
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, mentor, and develop APs and technicians.
* Experience in developing and enforcing electrical safety systems and compliance frameworks.
* Fluent English communication skills (German desirable but not mandatory).
* Willingness and ability to relocate to Frankfurt (relocation support provided for EU citizens).
