Hospital Sterile Services Department (HSSD) Manager
We are now inviting applications for the above role from suitably qualified and experienced candidates. The primary function will be the delivery of a professional and comprehensive HSSD service and be responsible for the day to day management of the department; to include staff, resources and equipment. The HSSD Manager will be responsible for ensuring effective leadership and support of the objectives, policies and strategies to maintain and improve the services delivered to patients and consultants.
The ideal candidate will:
* Possess a qualification in Sterile Services Technology or equivalent.
* Ideally have completed or be pursuing a recognised Management course.
* Be a member of the Irish Decontamination Institute and/or the Irish Association of Sterile Services Managers.
* Have experience in decontamination and sterilization services work in a central sterile services department.
* Experience of working in Hospital HSSD or similar environment is desirable.
* Have knowledge of service/financial planning and a thorough understanding of medical equipment management and maintenance.
* Be a strategic thinker with ability to negotiate and influence.
* Have excellent interpersonal, organisational & decision making skills.
* Have a working knowledge of I.T. packages.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:
* Establish systems of work and production, which ensures the quality of product in line with best practices, infection control policies and general safety of the service.
* Plan, organise and implement the daily flow of work in HSSD, ensuring the delivery of an effective service by efficient allocation of staffing duties and roster management.
* Keep abreast of developments in current practice relating to HSSD and be constantly aware of the need for self-development.
* Contribute to cost containment measures and the management of pay and non-pay budgets to ensure that resources are deployed efficiently and effectively and within budget.
* Communicate proposed changes in HSSD with Director of Nursing and relevant Department Heads in advance of occurrence.
* Oversee, in co-operation with Theatre, the decontamination of loan instruments and their decontamination records.
* Participate actively in projects, which involve improvements to HSSD, give advice and appraise management of new legislation in relation to the department.
