Senior Electronic Engineer - Medical Devices
Role PurposeThis role will contribute electronic engineering expertise across all stages of medical device development and sustaining engineering, supporting multiple projects simultaneously. The successful candidate will lead electronic design activities end to end, develop robust technological solutions, and provide technical leadership within the electronics team.Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Lead electronic designs from concept through to production and sustaining phases
Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the design of external electrical medical equipment, supporting new product development, sustaining engineering, and value improvement initiatives
Analyse technical reports, design data, and test results to recommend appropriate components, architectures, and design approaches
Drive continuous improvement of processes, tools, and working methodologies through collaboration with cross-functional teams
Maintain a strong focus on patient safety and product quality, ensuring compliance with all applicable quality systems, standards, and procedures
Provide technical support to technology development and product engineering teams
Communicate effectively across disciplines and levels, including technical updates to systems teams and senior management
Manage personal workload effectively, prioritising tasks based on business needs and project timelines
Delegate tasks appropriately across the electronics team on larger or more complex projects
Mentor and technically support junior engineers, contributing to capability development within the team
Education & Experience
Honours Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
5 years' experience in the medical device industry or another highly regulated sector
Experience working to international standards such as IEC 60601 and IEC 61000
Strong communication, organisation, and time-management skills
Electronic simulation
Schematic capture
PCB layout
Experience designing drive and control electronics for DC, stepper, and BLDC motors
Hands-on laboratory experience, including debugging, prototyping, and test equipment setup
Experience designing products to identify, mitigate, and resolve EMC issues
Strong understanding of requirements adherence and traceability (product specifications, design inputs, etc.)
Experience working with external suppliers and vendors
Preferred Qualifications
Master's or Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline
Previous experience acting as a technical lead on multiple projects
Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) principles
