About the Role
A long-established Irish meat processing and food production business is seeking a proactive and forward-thinking Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Officer with a strong sustainability focus to support a local food manufacturing operation. This role will support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Environmental, Health & Safety and sustainability programmes across the site.
This opportunity is ideal for someone who is passionate about environmental stewardship, workplace safety, and driving positive cultural change within a food manufacturing environment.
Environmental & Sustainability
Support the development and implementation of the company’s environmental and sustainability strategy.
Monitor environmental performance, including energy usage, waste management, water consumption, and carbon-reduction initiatives.
Lead sustainability reporting and contribute to certification or continuous improvement programmes.
Work closely with cross-functional teams to drive sustainability-focused initiatives across the manufacturing operation.
Experience with Origin Green or similar sustainability frameworks is advantageous but not essential.
Health & Safety
Maintain and continuously improve the site’s Health & Safety Management System.
Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and internal audits to ensure compliance with legislation and internal standards.
Deliver EHS training, including Manual Handling and safety awareness programes.
Investigate incidents, near misses, and non-conformances, ensuring corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory authorities and insurance representatives.
Compliance & External Audits
Coordinate and support external audits, including SMETA, HSA, customer, and regulatory audits.
Liaise with company insurers to ensure all documentation, incident reports, and risk-management records are accurately maintained.
Ensure ongoing compliance with Irish and EU Environmental, Health & Safety legislation.
Qualifications & Experience
Degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Science, Health & Safety, Sustainability, or a related discipline.
2–4 years’ experience in an EHS role, ideally within food manufacturing, manufacturing, or a regulated production environment.
Certified Manual Handling Trainer.
Strong working knowledge of Irish Health & Safety legislation and best-practice standards.
Experience participating in or coordinating external audits (e.g. SMETA, HSA) is highly desirable.
Experience with Origin Green is an advantage but not required.
