Role Overview
Old Church Veterinary Group are looking for a passionate Mixed Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly, supportive team. This is a predominantly clinical role with a varied caseload across small animals, beef and suckler cattle, sheep and a small dedicated equine client base.
You’ll have the chance to work on a wide range of medical and surgical cases, gaining hands-on experience with minimal referrals thanks to our excellent on-site facilities.
What We Offer
* Support & Mentorship: Tailored support especially for new graduates and junior vets, with guaranteed guidance during your first 6-9 months. Experienced vets are equally valued and encouraged to contribute their expertise.
* Balanced Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am-6pm, with 1 in 5 Saturdays and 1 in 5 on-call. Out-of-hours phone calls are handled by senior admin staff to help manage the workload.
* State of the Art Equipment: Including a full Idexx Laboratory Suite, Ultrasound, X-ray, Physiotherapy, Laser Therapy, Fertility and other specialised testing.
* Relocation Support: Up to €5,000 towards moving expenses (terms apply).
* Competitive Salary: Based on experience and skills.
About You
We are seeking a dedicated, passionate Mixed Veterinary Surgeon who is:
•VCI registered and eligible to work in Ireland.
•Clinically ambitious and keen to continue developing your skills, whether you’re a new graduate or an experienced veterinary surgeon.
•Friendly, collaborative, and committed to providing excellent care in a busy, fast-paced environment.
•Has a genuine passion for mixed practice and enjoys the variety of cases it offers.
This position is open to all experience levels — we welcome new graduates as well as vets with extensive clinical backgrounds.
About Old Church Vets
Nestled in the heart of the Wild Atlantic Way, Old Church Vets is a well-established mixed animal practice with a rich history and a forward-thinking approach to veterinary care. Founded in 1954 in Ballyshannon, our practice has grown to include our beautiful hospital in Donegal Town and Grange, Co Sligo.
Operating from a beautifully converted 19th-century Methodist church, our name-sake practice in Ballyshannon became the first accredited small animal hospital in the North-West in 2002.
Our team comprises 9 veterinarians, 6 veterinary nurses, and a dedicated support staff, all working collaboratively to provide comprehensive care across small animals, large animals (primarily beef, suckler, and sheep), and a select equine clientele. We offer a wide range of services, including orthopaedic surgery, physiotherapy, laser therapy, and in-house diagnostics, ensuring that our patients receive the highest standard of care.
