JOB SYNOPSIS
This post provides the opportunity for an academic career across both University and Clinical sites, and will deliver excellent research, teaching and societal opportunities for impact. Applicants should have experience conducting high-quality research, as demonstrated by published articles in international ISI-ranked journals of great repute and a good pipeline of studies for publication. Evidence of high-impact publications and awareness of the potential impact of the publications beyond academia is expected. The successful candidate is expected to: teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels on accredited nursing programmes, supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research, undertake administrative tasks associated with an academic position and undertake excellent research.

Registered or eligible to register as a Registered General Nurse (RGN) in the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
Doctoral degree (level 10NFQ) in nursing or a closely related field.
OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB:

This new role has been created to provide a nursing-specific contribution to research strategy development, education and nursing practice development at the University of Limerick (UL) and University of Limerick Hospitals (UL Hospitals). The post holder will demonstrate academic leadership in the development of nursing through teaching, research and scholarship, and contribute to the overall intellectual life of the University and UL Hospitals, the academic discipline, health services and society at large.

DESCRIPTION:

This post is a joint initiative between UL and UL Hospitals.
While working at UL Hospitals the post holder will report to the UL Hospitals Chief Director of Nursing and Midwifery and will work in partnership with all relevant stakeholders.
Within the University the post holder be an academic appointee of the UL School of Nursing and Midwifery and will report to the Head of School.
The Joint Clinical/Academic Professor in Clinical Nursing will contribute to both the clinical governance of UL Hospitals and the academic decision-making processes within the School of Nursing and Midwifery.
Within the organisational structure of the UL Hospitals, the post holder will work within a professional clinical environment to lead and develop clinical research and practice in nursing, including its design and conduct, as well as its application in nursing practice development.
The post holder will contribute to and lead on achieving agreed research priority objectives of the two employing organisations by engaging in scholarly activity through research, publications and teaching.

Essential Criteria:

Registered or eligible to register as a Registered General Nurse (RGN) in the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
Doctoral degree (level 10NFQ) in nursing or a closely related field.
High profile in research through first class publications in peer-reviewed journals and evidence of securing research funding.
Supervision experience especially at post graduate research level.
Evidence of ability to facilitate individuals and teams engaged in a variety of research and practice development activities.
Extensive knowledge and experience in the discipline demonstrated through substantial. achievements in nursing, teaching and/or research.
Evidence of success in gaining funding for, and leading practice centred research.
Extensive participation and implementation with tertiary programmes/courses in health including research student supervision.
International publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
International conference presentation profile.
Comprehensive knowledge of professional and practice issues surrounding clinical nursing and integrated care nationally and internationally.
High profile in research through first class publications in peer-reviewed journals and evidence of securing research funding.
Evidence of ability to facilitate individuals and groups engaged in a variety of research activities.
Able to articulate a clear vision of their role and its impact on the three organizations.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate across disciplinary boundaries and foster a culture of inquiry, collegiality, and creativity.
Demonstration of high-quality management, leadership and administration within clinical practice and higher education.

Desirable Criteria:

Evidence of supervising PhD students to successful completion
Postgraduate qualification in a specialised area of nursing practice
Previous experience in an organisational leadership role in a higher education institute at School/Department level and/or within Health Services
Evidence of a growing international reputation as a leader in the discipline of nursing through election to key positions on national and international bodies and societies; lectures at international conferences and events; membership of government or international advisory bodies; contribution at a senior level to one or more professional bodies in the area.
Record of outstanding recruitment, supervision, support through to successful completion of graduate research students.
Professional teaching background in nurse education.
Knowledge and experience of a variety of research methodologies appropriate to working with health professionals and the public.
Evidence of high-level consultancy work and attracting external competitive project funding.
Reviewer or editorial positions in high-impact, internationally refereed academic and professional journals/publications
Sustained high-quality contribution to the scholarship of teaching and learning and/or pedagogic innovation in their discipline.
Able to articulate potential collaboration with the research development around integrated care.
Active involvement in University/HSE Committees and Governance.
