BlueRock Environmental Ltd is a small specialist environmental consultancy firm based in Furbo, Co. Galway (approximately 15 mins west from Galway city and situated on the Wild Atlantic Way) that provides consultancy expertise in the fields of Hydrogeology, Contaminated Land, Waste Assessments, Environmental Impact Assessments, Hydrology and Environmental Due Diligence.
Due to a steadily increasing workload we currently have an opportunity within our Galway office for an enthusiastic and motivated Graduate or Junior Level Contaminated Land Consultant or Hydrogeologist to join our team.
The role would be most suited to someone who is passionate about environmental consultancy and environmental protection and prefers working in a small supportive environment for career development. The role offers a mix of fieldwork, technical reporting, client interaction along with one-to-one mentoring with a highly experienced hydrogeologist and contaminated land consultant.
Main Duties & Responsibilities include:
* Undertaking desktop environmental studies and reporting.
* Undertaking fieldwork including supervising site investigations, soil sampling, water sampling, air/vapour/landfill gas monitoring, trial pit & borehole geological logging, groundwater level monitoring and river flow monitoring.
* Liaising with site investigation contractors, laboratories, clients, other consultants, landowners and relevant 3 rd parties.
* Preparing technical reports based on interpretation of site collated data.
* Managing equipment and supply stocks for site works.
* Site supervision of contaminated land remediation programs.
* The ideal candidate must be motivated and enthusiastic and capable of working both independently and as part of a project team.

* Contaminated Land/Brownfield Site/Landfill & Illegal Waste Site Investigations & Remediation.
* Environmental Monitoring – Soil, Water and Vapour
* Remediation Design and Supervision.
* EPA Licence Monitoring.
* Environmental Due Diligence Assessments for potential site acquisitions or sale.
* Hydrogeological Impact Assessments.
* Hydrological & River Monitoring
* Quarry Hydrogeological Assessments.
* Emergency Fuel or Chemical Spill Assessments &
* Groundwater Resource Assessments.
* Dewatering Project Assessments.
* Environmental Impact Assessments.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
The relevant person must have the following:
* An undergraduate honours degree or MSc qualification in Hydrogeology, Geology, Earth Science or Environmental/Civil Engineering, or equivalent.
* Excellent analytical and report writing skills.
* Strong attention to detail and communication skills.
* Self-motivated and proactive in a dynamic project environment.
* A positive and enthusiastic attitude with high motivation to take on new challenges in the fields of hydrogeology and contaminated land.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
* Excellent organisation and time management skills.
* High level of proficiency in MS Office (i.e. Word, Excel & PowerPoint).
* Related post-graduate qualification, ideally to MSc standard.
* At least 1-2 years Hydrogeological, Contaminated Land or Geotechnical site investigation or consultancy experience.
* Have own transport.
* Membership of a relevant professional body.
* GIS knowledge and experience.
* Good knowledge of relevant environmental standards and regulations in Ireland.
* Some site investigation or contaminated land experience or experience in an environmental consultancy environment is an advantage.
Location:
The position is Galway-based but willing to offer some hybrid working options over time. A full clean driving licence is required. Willingness to travel to project sites and undertaking site work outside normal working hours, will be required for short periods from time to time. The role will initially be 80% / 20% office/site works spilt.
