Band 5 General Radiographer

Craigavon Area Hospital

Temporary (Until September 2026)

£15.88 per hour

37.5 hours per week (Monday-Friday 9am to 5pm (Shift hours may be required)





Main Purpose

To assist in the provision of an effective diagnostic imaging service whilst, assuring the optimum quality of care for patients.



Main Roles and Responsibilities


Undertake Radiographic and Imaging examinations as required. To supervise and train assistant staff and student radiographers.
Maintain a high standard of Radiography.
Ensure that Radiation Protection Rules are applied at all times and to be familiar with and obey Ionising Radiations Regulations (N.I.) 2017 and Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (N.I.) 2018 and observe local rules concerning ionising radiation.
Take part in routine daily inspection of equipment and quality assurance procedures.
Keep up-to-date with current techniques and developments in Radiographic and Imaging procedures.
Endeavour to achieve a high standard of image quality by: Following exposure charts accurately Checking images thoroughly and following assessment guidelines, where appropriate Seeking advice from more senior staff when necessary
Take responsibility for keeping the department in general and specifically the work area, clean, tidy and safe. Have a flexible approach to work so that urgent cases can be facilitated as necessary.
Ensure the policies and procedures of the Trust are applied and adhered to.
To supervise and train assistant staff and student radiographers
Ensure effective and economic use of resources and report all occurrences of defects which may affect health and safety Facilitate departmental efficiency by assuming the responsibilities of a more Senior Officer if that Officer is absent. This should only apply for a limited period.




Essential Criteria:

Experience of using the broad range of general Radiographic skills attained at training level (including placement experience), accurately and efficiently. Hold a Diploma from the College of Radiographers or BSc (Hons) in Radiography, (Diagnostic) or equivalent / higher qualification.


AND


Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registration or be eligible to apply before taking up post


AND


Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment. This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.
Effective Planning & organisational skills with an ability to prioritise own workload.
Effective Communications skills to meet the needs of the post in full.
Ability to supervise students and assistants
Ability to work as part of a Team
Ability to use own initiative
Ability to identify solutions to problems and implement them effectively.
Have an excellent understanding of Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (NI) 2018 knowledge of up to date current professional issues.
