The role
The Grade 4 Pastoral Support Worker will be responsible for assisting with the pastoral care and welfare support to all students in the University of Galway, particularly those experiencing crisis, adverse challenges and requiring acute support.
Essential Criteria Required
Minimum of five years of work experience in a relevant role, particularly with young adults e.g. community, spiritual or pastoral support
Evidence of a developed awareness of student welfare issues and pastoral concerns
Evidence of organising relevant pastoral interventions or events
Ability to manage social media relevant to the role
Experience of dealing with confidential, sensitive, and complex student/young adult difficulties
Evidence of ability to process and analyse data on student welfare
Proficient skills in ICT related to the role, including MS Office, database etc
Ability to liaise effectively and work as part of a team
Applicants will be required to complete IT and Ability assessments
Evidence of good decision making and use of initiative
Experience supporting people with suicidality
Experience working with minority and under-represented groups
Knowledge of solution-focused support practices
Experience working with community agencies relating to well-being and human welfare
Experience developing educational/skills programmes
Experience of organising and implementing large-scale projects/events for groups
Experience managing people and volunteers
Desirable Criteria Required
Level 9 qualification (or equivalent) in pastoral care studies, counselling, psychotherapy, social work, or a related discipline.
Registered with accreditation body related to holistic pastoral care
Experience working with families
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Excellent planning, prioritisation and organisational skills
Knowledge of policies and procedures in the area of equality, diversity and inclusion
Experience of working with volunteers
Knowledge of higher-level education structures and governance
