Job Purpose
Boston Scientific Neuromodulation technologies help patients manage chronic pain and neurological conditions. Our solutions include WaveWriter Alpha™ Spinal Cord Stimulator (SCS) Systems to treat chronic pain and Vercise Genus™ Deep Brain Stimulation Systems to treat movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease. You will play a key role focusing on project assignments that drive the innovation and commercialization of complex medical device assemblies. You will work with a talented cross‑disciplinary team to support both new and existing products. The role will be based in our Clonmel site with the option of working hybrid across our remote R&D hubs located in Cork or Limerick.
Key Responsibilities
Support new product development (NPD) from concept through design, prototyping, testing, and validation
Contribute to electronic circuit design, schematic capture, and component selection
Support sustaining engineering activities, including root‑cause analysis, failure investigation, and product improvements
Provide integration support, ensuring compatibility between electronic, mechanical, and software systems and performing gap analysis between BSC and new business unit’s product life cycle
Collaborate cross‑functionally with R&D, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams
Support design for manufacturability, testability, and reliability requirements
Demonstrate broad knowledge of design controls and risk management
Assist with product lifecycle management, including obsolescence management and design changes
Generate and maintain technical documentation, including design files, test reports, and procedures
Support verification and validation testing, regulatory compliance, and design reviews
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Electronic, Computer engineering or equivalent.
Minimum 3 years electrical engineering industry experience, preferably within the Medical Technology Sector, with hands‑on design controls experience or minimum 2 years industry experience with Masters in relevant discipline
Knowledge of international standards such as IEC 60601, IEC 61000, ISO 14708, or similar.
Knowledge of electronic design including electronic simulation, schematic capture, and PCB layout.
Lab skills and experience with prototyping, general test equipment setup for electronic designs.
Experience with PCBA boards bring‑up and troubleshooting.
Experience in Failure Analysis.
Experience in designing to solve and mitigate EMC issues.
Exposure to adherence principles and understanding (product specifications, etc.).
Experience of design controls and risk management.
In all actions, demonstrates a primary commitment to patient safety and product quality by maintaining compliance to the Quality Policy and all other documented quality processes and procedures.
Strong communication, interpersonal, collaboration and time management skills.
