Safety Officer – Sports and Entertainment Venue
Qualifications
* Experience in crowd safety, stadium operations, or event management.
* Strong understanding of legislation such as:
Code of Practice for Sports and Entertainment Venues
* The Green Guide
* Fire Safety Legislation
* Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005
* Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
* Ability to remain calm and authoritative under pressure.
* Experience working in control rooms or in command-and-control environments.
* Experience liaising with police and emergency services.
* Previous experience in a professional sports or large-venue setting.
Matchday & Event Safety Management
* Act as Event Controller for the Sports and Entertainment Venue,
* Oversee all safety operations during events, including ingress, egress, crowd flow, and general spectator welfare.
* Coordinate with stewards, security teams, emergency services, and stadium control room staff.
* Monitor crowd behavior, identifying and responding to risks or incidents.
* Ensure effective communication with all safety personnel during events.
Compliance & Legal Responsibilities
* Ensure the venue complies with the Code of Practice for Safety at Sports Grounds, the Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds (Green Guide), fire regulations, and all relevant legislation.
* Maintain all statutory documentation, including the stadium's Safety Certificate and event risk assessments.
* Conduct and update risk assessments, emergency plans, and contingency procedures.
Operational Planning
* Lead pre-event safety briefings and post-event debrief reviews.
* Contribute to event safety management plans, steward deployment plans, and command-and-control procedures.
* Liaise with police, ambulance services, fire authorities, local council, and other stakeholders.
Incident Management
* Act as a designated safety officer in the event of emergencies.
* Lead and coordinate incident response and escalation procedures.
* Maintain accurate event logs, incident reports, and evidence records.
Training & Supervision
* Contribute to steward training on crowd management, emergency procedures, and customer service.
* Ensure staff are competent, briefed, and equipped for their roles.
* Support continuous improvement in safety culture within the venue.
Venue Safety Maintenance
* Responsibility for Occupational Health & Safety for th
e Sports and Entertainment Venue
* Conduct stadium safety inspections pre- and post-event.
* Identify hazards and ensure prompt remediation.
