Electrical Tester Job Description

The role of the Electrical Tester involves inspecting and testing electrical systems and equipment to ensure they comply with specifications, electrical wiring regulations, and standards. This includes reviewing test documents from specialist suppliers and subcontractors for inclusion in operation and maintenance handover documentation.
Key responsibilities include keeping records, compiling inspection and test reports for issue to site management teams, advising on non-compliant installations, inspecting wiring and terminations for quality and compliance, writing up recommendations for improvement, ensuring all test instruments have current calibration certificates, and maintaining the test instrument register.
Additionally, the successful candidate will be required to carry out electrical installation work as directed by the project manager or site supervisor. This may involve aspects such as containment, cabling and wiring, final fixing, glanding and terminating low and extra-low voltage systems.

Required Skills and Qualifications

* A minimum of two years' experience in a similar position is essential.

* National Craft Certificate is a mandatory requirement.

* Qualified Certifier through a Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) accredited provider is also a must-have.

* Current Safe Pass Certificate and Manual Handling Certificate are required.

* Abrasive Wheels Certificate would be an asset but is not necessary.

* Thorough knowledge of company electrical test instruments is essential.

* Knowledge of applicable electrical codes, standards, and regulations is crucial.
