The Opportunity
The NPD & Applications Technologist will play a key role in driving innovation, concept development and customer-led product solutions across a broad range of food categories including meat, protein, bakery, savoury and snacking applications.
Reporting to the Head of Business Development, the role combines culinary creativity, food science, ingredient functionality and customer engagement. The successful candidate will be responsible for interpreting market trends, developing innovative product concepts, showcasing ingredient solutions through relevant food applications, and supporting the commercialisation of new ideas.
Working closely with customers, suppliers and internal teams, the successful candidate will help develop new product ideas and bring them from concept stage through to commercial launch.
This position provides exposure to leading global ingredient manufacturers, emerging food trends and a wide variety of applications across the food manufacturing sector.
Responsibilities
Innovation & Concept Development
Interpret market, consumer and category trends to identify new product opportunities
Develop innovative food concepts aligned with customer requirements and business growth objectives
Create and showcase ingredient solutions across meat, protein, bakery, savoury and snacking applications
Develop kitchen-scale recipes and concepts for further technical development and commercialisation
Translate market trends and customer needs into relevant product concepts and development projects
Customer Engagement & Applications
Support customer innovation projects through concept development, product demonstrations and technical presentations
Participate in customer meetings, presentations and application showcases
Work closely with customers to understand market requirements and develop tailored ingredient solutions
Demonstrate how ingredients perform across different food applications and manufacturing environments
Product Development & Commercialisation
Support new product development and commercial launch activities
Conduct kitchen, pilot and factory trials where required to validate product performance and scalability
Reformulate and optimise products based on customer, technical and commercial requirements
Work closely with technical, commercial and operations teams to bring new products from concept through to launch
Supplier & Market Collaboration
Build relationships with ingredient suppliers and utilise supplier innovation to strengthen product pipelines
Participate in supplier meetings, training sessions and innovation workshops
Maintain awareness of ingredient technologies, market developments and emerging consumer trends
Documentation & Compliance
Prepare technical documentation, recipes, specifications and application notes
Ensure compliance with food safety, quality and regulatory requirements
Maintain accurate project records and development documentation
Candidate Requirements
Chef background combined with a qualification in Food Science, Food Technology, Culinary Arts or a related discipline
3+ years’ experience within NPD, Innovation, Applications or Product Development roles, ideally within food ingredients, processed meat, value-added foods or related sectors
Strong interest in food innovation and new product development
Experience developing, matching and showcasing flavour profiles across a range of food applications
Strong understanding of ingredient functionality and food formulation
Experience presenting concepts, products and ideas to customers or internal stakeholders
Experience conducting kitchen, pilot and factory trials
Good understanding of customer requirements and the ability to develop practical product solutions
Knowledge of food safety systems including HACCP, BRC and relevant food industry standards
Excellent communication, organisational and project management skills
Ability to operate independently while collaborating effectively across technical, commercial and operational teams
Enthusiastic, self-motivated and genuinely interested in food and product development
Comfortable presenting products and concepts to customers
