Position
This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive health and safety management systems to protect employees, contractors, and visitors while ensuring regulatory compliance with both Belgian/French workplace safety laws and aviation industry standards.
The position requires strategic oversight of all health and safety activities, risk management, and the promotion of a strong safety culture throughout the organization.
For our activities in Belgium, the Health & Safety Manager serves as the designated "Conseiller en Prévention" (Prevention Advisor) for our aviation maintenance company, ensuring full compliance with Belgian occupational health and safety legislation.
Main tasks and responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance & Advisory Functions in Belgium
* Act as the statutory "Conseiller en Prévention" in accordance with Belgian workplace safety legislation. Take ownership of the SIPP (Internal Prevention and Protection Service) function within the company.
* Ensure compliance with the "Loi du Bien-être au Travail" and related Royal Decrees.
* Maintain liaison with external prevention services when required.
* Prepare and submit mandatory safety reports to Belgian authorities.
* Participate to the Committee for Prevention and Protection at Work (CPPT/CPBW) and act as secretary.
* Identify areas of risk to employees and recommend appropriate control and preventive measures to optimize the Health, Safety and wellbeing of our staff. To prevent, and/or correct unsafe working conditions using knowledge of the company, national, and industry Health and Safety regulations in order to minimize the risk of employee injury.
* Examine and plan, along with responsible entity representatives, specifications for new equipment and facilities/facility occupation to determine if all safety precautions have been included so that workers are assured of working in a safe environment with appropriate tools.
* Conduct comprehensive workplace risk assessments across all aviation maintenance activities.
* Develop and maintain risk registers for chemical exposures, noise, ergonomic hazards, and aircraft-specific risks.
* Implement risk control measures following the hierarchy of controls principle.
* Monitor effectiveness of implemented safety measures through regular audits and inspections.
Safety Management System Development
* Design, implement, and continuously improve the company's safety management system.
* Develop safety policies, procedures, and work instructions specific to aviation maintenance operations.
* Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for health and safety performance. Report the H&S KPI’s on a monthly basis and provide analysis of the results in order to advise line managers on the appropriate corrective actions.
* Coordinate safety management with aviation quality assurance requirements (EASA Part 145).
* Lead incident investigation processes and root cause analysis.
* Ensure accidents are investigated and to perform investigations into all major incidents; report on causes and make recommendations for improvement actions, in order to prevent re-occurrence.
* Maintain incident reporting systems and ensure timely reporting to authorities.
* Develop corrective and preventive action plans.
* Monitor implementation of safety improvements following incidents.
Occupational Health Management
* Manage workplace exposure monitoring (noise, chemicals, ergonomics)
* Liaise with occupational health physicians and external health services
* Oversee health screening programs for aviation maintenance personnel
* Organize medical examination in collaboration with the occupational physician.
* Assist in the provision of training courses in order to ensure that management and staff are provided with the necessary skills to operate within a safe environment.
* Help to develop and evaluate H&S training programs for all staff and ensure all line managers possess the relevant skills and knowledge to effectively manage Health and Safety issues, so that all concerned parties are trained and aware of H&S issues relevant to their job functions.
* Implement best practices and liaise with external organizations to continuously seek new methods of improving H&S performance.
* Coordinate mandatory safety inductions for new employees, temporary workers and contractors.
* Organize safety & well-being awareness campaigns and communication initiatives.
* Maintain training records and competency assessments in compliance with national requirements.
Project Co-ordination-Leading
* Monitor proposed and actual changes in H&S legislation and keep management aware of implications and ensure legislative changes are fully incorporated in a timely fashion in our internal policies, procedures and practices so that all our activities are in compliance with legal requirements.
* Be involved in any project assigned by the Management.
Communication
* Liaise with Management on all issues relating to H&S.
Internal compliance
* Comply with all relevant divisional and local company related policies, procedures and legal requirements.
Customer Experience

Requirements
Essential Educational and / or Training Qualifications & Certificates
* You have a clean certificate of good conduct (required for work on airport sites).
Preferred Experience and Knowledge
* Industry Experience: Minimum 5 years in health and safety management, preferably in aviation, aerospace, or heavy industrial maintenance environments.
* Regulatory Knowledge: Thorough understanding of Belgian and French workplace safety legislation, EU directives, and aviation maintenance safety requirements.
* Technical Expertise: Experience with risk assessment methodologies, safety management systems, and incident investigation techniques.
* Project Management Experience: Proven track record in leading safety initiatives and influencing safety culture across diverse teams.
Necessary Technical / Functional Skills
* Good knowledge of standard MS Office tools (Word, Excel, …).
* Fluent in French and/or Dutch.
* Excellent communication skills and fluent in French, Dutch and English.
* Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments and successfully complete time critical projects.
* Ability to positively influence others.
* Ability to work alone as well as within a team.
* Have good analytical and synthesis skills. Ability to manage projects, organise work, set up procedures, and draft reports.
