Overview:
A Yard Operative plays a crucial role in daily operations. This position involves stock handling, order preparation, housekeeping, and assisting customers while maintaining high standards of safety and organisation. Working under the instruction of the senior yard team and reporting directly to the Yard Manager, this role contributes to smooth daily operations and a positive customer experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Stock Management & Order Fulfilment:
* Pick, pack, and load customer orders accurately and efficiently.
* Load and unload deliveries, ensuring proper handling and documentation.
* Assist with stock-taking procedures and inventory control.
* Ensure stock is stored systematically and is clearly identifiable.
* Liaise with shop staff to fulfil customer and trade orders.
* Report damages to stock controller.
* Inform customers and staff about alternatives if stock is not available.
Customer Service & Engagement:
* Assist customers in the yard and warehouse area, providing excellent service.
* Build strong relationships with customers to understand their needs.
* Work collaboratively with the trade counter and shop teams to ensure seamless service.
* Customers take priority when in yard above loading our own trucks etc.
Operations & Housekeeping:
* Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the yard and warehouse at all times.
* Ensure all products are stored safely and workspace upkeep meets company standards.
* Monitor security to prevent theft or misuse of company property.
* Follow operational and health & safety procedures as outlined by the company.
Equipment Use & Compliance:
* Operate forklifts and other warehouse equipment.
* Adhere to all safety regulations when handling materials and machinery.
* Work as part of a team to ensure smooth and effective warehouse operations.
* If you take out equipment/stock, it needs to be put back.
* Daily forklift and health and safety checks.

* Forklift license and experience is an advantage, but training can be arranged.
