Senior Principal Engineer Roads – Limerick
Location: N/M20 Project office, Limerick (or alternative Dublin office)
The Ireland Roads Team is seeking a Senior or Principal Engineer with extensive post‑professional qualification experience in the design and project management of road schemes and active travel schemes. The successful candidate will lead and grow a team undertaking concept, preliminary and detailed design for major national road schemes including the N/M20 Cork to Limerick Project, public transport schemes such as Dublin Metrolink and Cork BusConnects, and active travel schemes for the National Transport Authority and local authorities.
Responsibilities
Manage projects to ensure coordination and compatibility of multi-disciplinary inputs on projects of varying scale, complexity and value.
Liaise with clients, develop strong trusted relationships, proactively manage expectations and provide comprehensive advice.
Serve as project technical lead and reviewer.
Use technical ability and experience to develop staff.
Prepare fee proposals and manage budgets for individual projects.
Be responsible for the development and delivery of discrete and overall project solutions.
Lead and manage other staff members in the delivery of design drawings, standard construction details, specifications and bill of quantities, supporting the preparation of tender packages.
Ensure compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental Legislation and in‑house quality assurance standards/processes.
Qualifications
Project management and technical delivery lead experience for road or public transport/active travel schemes, with understanding of Transport Infrastructure Ireland, National Transport Authority or local authority procedures.
Experience with contract document preparation or contract administration/site supervision using Public Works Contracts.
Chartered member of a relevant engineering technical institution.
Knowledge of alignment and drainage design software such as Civil3D, Open Roads, MX or WinDes (preferred).
Strong communication, client‑management and interpersonal skills.
Excellent IT skills including MS Projects.
Thorough understanding and application of current design standards (Urban Street/Active Travel Design, Highway Geometric Design, TII publications, NTA Project Management Guidelines).
Strong stakeholder‑management experience.
