The successful applicant will report to the Chief Sub-Editor and will ensure the highest standards are adhered to regarding the style, grammar and tone of content across our titles and publications. The role will include working collaboratively with your colleagues to ensure the internal subbing desk meets the expectations of both editors and readers, and ensuring that potential issues are identified and corrected prior to publication. The successful applicant will also ensure the consistent application of digital-ready workflows across the subbing function in collaboration with his/her colleagues.Role Responsibilities (Overview)Edit articles for grammar, punctuation, clarity and accuracy, and ensure the finished content meets the expectations of both editors and readers, and that potential issues are identified and corrected prior to publicationDigitally enhance articles to an consistent standardWrite compelling headlines that meet both print expectations, and SEO and UX demands for digitalFact-check and liaise with the writer and/or News/Features Desk where appropriateEnsure content is free from legal issuesWork to exacting deadlinesComprehensive knowledge of house styleUnderstand and uphold the style, standards and ethics of Mediahuis IrelandEdit photos, pulling photos from image management applications, cropping photos for publication, verifying imagesExperience & Qualifications (Minimum Experience & Essential Knowledge)A knowledge of digital publishing CMSs is required.
