Position Summary
BMS is recruiting an Associate Director responsible for setting and delivering policy, patient advocacy and government engagement strategy in Ireland. This person will senior‑level engage with government, HSE, regulators, patient organisations and system leaders, translating political and policy developments into strategic advice for leadership. The role shapes the external environment to support timely and equitable patient access to innovative medicines.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and lead an all‑Ireland wide policy, advocacy & government affairs strategy, working closely with cross‑functional teams.
Champion initiatives influencing political debates, legislation and national policy to optimise patient access to medicines in Ireland.
Map and prioritise key stakeholders in Ireland’s policy landscape and lead proactive engagement with government departments, health agencies and parliamentary committees.
Ensure policy and advocacy initiatives are grounded in improving health outcomes and access for patients in Ireland, engaging patient advocacy groups.
Anticipate and respond to emerging policy trends such as Life Science Strategy, digital health, personalised medicine and sustainability.
Actively participate in trade associations and serve as BMS chief representative to IPHA.
Work closely with senior leadership to enhance engagement with the Irish government.
Serve as statutory director of Bristol‑Myers Squibb Pharmaceuticals UC, upholding corporate governance and compliance.
Qualifications
Clear commitment to improving patient access and reflecting patient voice in policy and advocacy.
Proven track record in health policy, advocacy or government affairs, securing policy change within Ireland.
Minimum of eight years of relevant experience in government, politics, health system, patient advocacy, consultancy or life sciences.
Innovative thinker with deep understanding of Ireland’s political landscape, health system and medicines policy aligning with BMS priorities.
Strong navigation skills in complex policy and political environments.
Exceptional communication skills, synthesising complex issues for diverse audiences.
Strong leadership skills and ability to represent BMS’s Irish footprint autonomously.
Excellent relationship‑building skills with government, system leaders, patient organisations and industry stakeholders.
