To support this growth, we are seeking an Of Counsel with combined expertise in insurance law and corporate advisory work to strengthen our senior bench, support partners in delivering high-value advice, and mentor the next generation of specialists.
About the Role
This Of Counsel role is suited to an experienced lawyer with deep expertise in insurance regulation, advisory work, and corporate transactional matters. You will provide senior-level leadership on client matters, play a visible role in business development, and contribute to the strategic development of our insurance and corporate practice.
The role offers significant autonomy, the opportunity to shape client relationships, and scope to influence the direction of the group.
The Of Counsel - Insurance will:
Insurance Advisory & Regulatory
* Advise insurers, reinsurers, brokers, MGA/MGUs, and large corporates on complex regulatory issues, including authorisations, governance, ESG requirements, outsourcing, distribution, and conduct risk.
* Support advisory work on insurance product development, policy wordings, claims frameworks, and policyholder arrangements.
* Manage aspects of insurance and reinsurance transactional work, including portfolio transfers, due diligence, and regulatory engagement.
Corporate & Transactional
* Advise on corporate transactions involving insurance entities, including M&A, joint ventures, restructurings, and cross-border deals.
* Provide guidance on corporate governance, shareholder arrangements, and compliance matters.
* Coordinate multi-jurisdictional advice and work closely with colleagues across corporate, regulatory, disputes, and financial services teams.
Disputes & Coverage
* Work with our Litigation team in relation to coverage disputes, high-value litigation, and complex claims (e.g., property, professional indemnity, financial lines, cyber, and casualty).
Leadership & Development
* Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted senior adviser.
* Mentor associates and trainees, supporting high-quality legal output and team development.
* Contribute to thought leadership, client alerts, training, and market engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Expertise & Advisory
* Deliver senior-level oversight on matters across insurance regulation, corporate transactions, and coverage disputes.
* Draft and review policy wordings, endorsements, templates, and corporate documentation.
* Client Relationship Management
* Act as a primary point of contact for key clients, identifying opportunities to deepen relationships and cross-sell services.
Team Leadership
* Supervise and mentor lawyers of all levels, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
Business Development & Strategy
* Contribute to practice growth through tenders, panel pitches, events, and strategic initiatives.
* Produce client briefings and thought leadership on market trends and regulatory updates.
* Compliance & Risk
* Ensure advice aligns with regulatory frameworks including Central Bank of Ireland requirements, Solvency II, consumer protection, and financial services regulation.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential
* Qualified solicitor with 10+ years' PQE in insurance law and corporate transactions from a leading law firm or in-house environment.
* Deep expertise in insurance regulation and advisory work, with strong corporate transactional experience.
* Proven ability to lead complex matters and manage teams.
* Strong drafting skills and ability to handle technically complex issues with clarity.
* Commercial awareness and ability to provide practical, solution-focused advice.
* Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
Desirable
* Experience engaging with the Central Bank of Ireland.
* Exposure to reinsurance, Insurtech, or cross-border insurance issues.
* Experience mentoring junior lawyers and delivering training.
* A strong network in the insurance and corporate sectors.
